The most satisfied customers (from my own off and on months of shopping/researching TVs and reading customer and professional reviews) were from Samsung, Pioneer, Sharp, and Sony. These brands cost a bit more, but you usually get what you pay for. I got lucky with a good sale price (i now refuse to look at prices after the fact because i'm sure it will pop up for less than i paid next week) I realize that there are many great (or even better) brands out there other than the one I chose. I was just throwing out my own personal review.
I just read that Blockbuster is going to only carry BluRay in the future and drop HD DVDs from their choices. Its looking more and more like BluRay is the way to go.
I know what you mean and for the most part I'm one of them. My previous HD tv was a 1st gen Sony Grand Wega 50" and I loved it. I have a sony dekstop, laptop, my kid has a sony tv in his bedroom...etc....etc. When I was shopping for a tv I was looking at the Bravias but didn't see a better picture when I saw the two tvs side by side. Of course I was shopping 720p since the tv is for use in a small room and I felt the Samsung had the best picture. Not only that the aesthetic of the Samsung tv is much nicer. It has a piano black frame with an acrylic runner underneath. Very cleean lines. It looks beautiful off and on.

That plus the recent price drops and rebates that HD DVD has taken lately pretty much sums it up. Blu-Ray is the clearcut winner in the new format wars.
I figured it would win simply because of the PlayStation 3. It just took a bit longer to happen.
Microsoft made a huge mistake not making the Xbox360 an HD DVD player.
Still too early. If Microsoft put in the HD-DVD player it would have been at least $100 more and been out a year later like the PS3.
Right now, 360 is selling 2 times more than PS3 in America. Opposite in Japan but with much smaller numbers overall.
Maybe both Microsoft and Sony overshot. Wii is outselling them both.
Don't know if this will help you out or not but I have a 32" Westinghouse LCD that only cost me $450 from Best Buy. I use it as a secondary TV for my bedroom (other TV is a 42" Sony LCD). I've been able to connect my PC directly to it also I have my Xbox Elite and Nintendo Wii. Also my cable box is connected using the RGB component cables and so far I have no complaints. I also picked up the 4 year warranty for $99.
I am secret asian man.
From the point of view (I think) OP was coming from is strictly from the movie viewing side of things, and not the gaming side.
If I understand him correctly, he meant that, for the sake of HD-DVD's success against Blu-ray, maybe MS should have put in the HD-DVD drives.
Am I right, OP?
