BINGO!
On the other hand....I do want a Wii and have zero to no interest in a PS3.

you should give the ps3 a chance. the games will come. i personally bought it for blu ray. it was a hell of a lot cheaper than other blu ray players at the time and it plays games. i have an xbox 360 too, so i'm not some fanboy. :) anyways, the ps3 does have some good games coming out (or already out). i highly recommend Resistance: Fall of Man and Motorstorm. Metal Gear is also a good time.
Well looking at it from 1 1/2 years later I think Microsoft made the better choice. Sure I bet they want HD-DVD to win but they want XBox to win even more, which compared side to side with PS3 they are.
The potential for PS3, Metal Gear in the pipelines for instance, is there but at the moment XBox has more and better games. FORZA2!.
Remember Microsoft is a software company first and an engineering company second. Sony is the other way around.
VC-1 is the codec that HD-DVD uses mostly and that Bluray could use (although not used as extensively as HD-DVD). VC-1 was developed by Microsoft and is said to be the best of the compression techs for the new formats.
I think this is another reason why Microsoft went with standard DVD drive in the XBox too.
Southwest's stock is on the rise, baby! My new TV might come sooner than I thought! :)
