iPhoto or Camera specific software

I have two new toys, an iMac (yay!! and a new Cannon DSLR, Double yay!!) I just started on the Mac this weekend and installed the viewing and editing software on the computer. I downloaded my first set of pictures into both iPhoto and the Cannon image browser. Admittedly, I don't know enough about either to decide which to use. I do know that I don't want to use both. At first glance, the pics "seemed nicer" on the image viewer but that could just be my brain telling that it should look better. What do you use to view and store your pics on?

i use photoshop lightroom to edit, and acdsee as a viewer.
admittedly i use a pc, but lightroom should be available for os x
not sure about acdsee

also, i just use nested folders for storage. Lightroom can read it (on a pc, not sure about a mac)

basically [date] - [event] - [location]

for example
2009-04-13 - Dodgers Opening Day - Dodger Stadium
2009-07-03 - Ben San Diego Day 2
2010-05-22 - Soundscapes Exhibition - UCLA

I use photoshop, no viewer to DL the pics, just drag them from the card to my folders.

Photoshop Elements. Its enough for me. I've been looking at getting Lightroom but PSe seems to meet my needs for now. I also have a Mac and A Canon DSLR. I tried iPhoto when I first got the Mac but I prefer PSE.

Lightroom!!! It's the only way to fly for me.
