I think you have to be very careful with this because if you have Auto Update on, as soon as you plug the loaded iPod in, the new iTunes which has nothing in it, will try and "update" iPod, so it will clear the iPod.

For future reference, this is not something you want to leave for chance. Losing your music on your comp can be disastrous if you don't execute the iDump correctly.

Lacie always has external drives that are available from their clearance area:

    http://www.lacie.com/us/products/cle...ucts/?id=10007

Backup your data periodically, and make sure your backups are working properly, don't assume they just work. You have to test it to be sure.
at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

Another stupid Ipod question. I have no clue about some technical stuff but let me shoot out my question. I had Itunes on my original computer. I got rid of this computer (buried in some dump). Am i able to get back the library that I had on another computer?

Did you move the files to the new computer first? If not, better find out which dump it went to if you want them back.

another option which i used is if your ipod is formatted for windows you can force it into disk mode by pressing the play/pause button and the middle button after reseting the ipod (you may not have to do this). In windows explorer (after plugging it in) there is a hidden folder named 'ipod_control' and it should be huge (mine was 40gb). YOu can copy this onto your computer. It is best to just add the folder into itunes and have the 'copy music to itunes music folder' option on under preferences/advanced. Doing it this way will copy the music into individual and organized folders, rather than one lump folder. This should work and doesnt require another program.

Anyways, while we have an mp3 player thread going, I just got a ZUNE as a gift... are these things good, or do I need to run out and exchange it for an ipod?

I actually used CopyPod...it's not free but there is no chance of losing your tunes. Step by step walk thru, easy to use.

my nephew has one. They are not bad. The screen is awesome I just don't like the overall chunkiness of the item nor the plastic, toy like construction.

Get an iPod but if you can wait until November when the new ones come out.
