Thanks to all for the comments so far and again, awesome pics by everybody!

And now to try and catch up on feedback:

FBJ - Love the colors and contrast on the stained glass. How long until someone photoshops Anze or JMFJ into that shot?

Deuce - I like your subject and how it fits in with the background. Have you tried getting any close-up/macro shots? Could probably get some cool effects by squeezing in close.

Puckmonkey - Great work. "Glow Cone" and especially "Boogy Man Defense System" are particularly impressive. I once tried to take a similar picture but it came out nothing like that...

Kingofdodgers - I really like the revision of your first shot. The high contrast gives it a unique feel, and you earlier mentioned you should have wiped off the glass before taking the shot but I don't know if I agree... it has a certain feel that works really well. Excellent job.

Big Joe - Nice stein! The revision is much more crisp and I like the higher contrast, but you can't really go wrong with Carlsberg

Rinkrat - Clever I like the brake lights and how they reflect off the parked car in the first one.

Puckhead27 - Your shot really captures the liquid characteristics of glass. I like the fact that you just used standard lighting, too. With a subject like that it'd be pretty easy to go over the top trying different lighting, fancy angles, etc. You just stuck to the subject, cropped it, and the result is cool and fits the glass theme perfectly.

ValleyFan - If you're not very happy with your shots so far I'm almost afraid to see your next ones... I really like how the middle decanter/vase is reflected through the one on the left. That along with the distortions to the horizon stand-out. While the labels on the bottles could be illuminated a bit more, they still look excellent and the last two make me want cream soda.

    Default Mr. Teeny's photo post!

These comments are completely off the record, as I am not posting photos (yet?):

1)Puckmonkey never ceases to amaze me.
2)Good shots everyone! I'm enjoying watching this thread develop.

Edit: Okay, now I'm posting my junk. Let's see how this goes. These are all with a super snazzy Canon Powershot A540. No cool lenses. No tripods. Just pure talent, baby!

I'd like to say thanks to everyone for getting me to play with my crappy camera. I didn't have the motivation to get artsy fartsy with the thing until now, and I learned a few neat tricks.

There's an album up here: http://picasaweb.google.com/StragnetDagnet/LGKGlass

    coffee stains

(This is the first one I took, just playing around in my office. Contrast has been upped a bit.)

    skewed office 2

(Through a few curved lenses, with reflections of my window blinds, etc.)

    barrel roll

(Getting James Bond here... taken through the lens of a slide projector. There are more of this style in the gallery linked to above.)

    staring at the sun

(Still through the slide projector lens. Contrast/color boosted a bit.)

    softserve 2

(A bulb in the afternoon light. Handheld in front of my window.)

    frigid lid

(Leftovers for dinner turn into art when the lid of your corningware is held up in front of your living room lamp.)

    tea ball 1

(Starting to play with exposure a bit more. Camera sitting on frosted glass desk, lit from below, with tea lights and funky golf ball trophy.)

    tea ball 2

    original
(Finally coming to grips with my macro focusing ability, time exposure, and light levels.)

    bug eye

    original
(Close up on the golf ball, looking through the flat spot it's supposed to rest on. The colors are from tea lights in the background. The light is a quick wash with a flashlight.)

    ring of fire

    original
(Same set up on the glass desk, this time with a green vase. Very little ambient light. Lighter used for the ring of fire.)

    blue flame

(Blue LED lights from a back massager, flame from the lighter...)

    ignition

    original
(Playing around with different movements of the lighter and exposure times.)

Have you ever guessed somebody's gender wrong? There's no recovering from that. You just gotta move on, cause you ain't wriggling outta nothin'.
    "Hey, excuse me, sir?"
    "Maam."
"Okay." "Okay, bye... bye, human. Bye person. Nice to meet you, individual."

Yep it was intended. I took several and waited till I had cars going by. I had to almost lay in the street to get the right angle. I probably have one with the lights all the way across. I liked the way the line of the lights complimented the lines in the neon sign.

This is pretty much what I envisioned before even getting the camera and going back to the store at night. I figured the streaking lights would add a little flair.

Damn Glenn. Pic 3 in the bong series is uber sick man. The color spectrum is crazy schit. good one.

You must have some serious time on your hands lately.

Speaking of time, my 2 shots are probably going to be all she wrote for this challenge. I'm heading to PA for 10 days for a OSHA conference with a bunch of contractors. Its going to be boring during the day and drunk at night. No time for walkie pickies...

Thanks for the karma props everyone...

LOL @ "bong series!" I tried so hard to take pictures where you couldn't tell exactly what was being made.

Well hopefully you'll be involved in the next challenge, too! Good luck in PA!
