Default It's here! LGK PHOTOGRAPHY CHALLENGE #1

    LGK Photography Challenge #1

Alright, everyone! Here’s the theme for LGK Photography Challenge #1, as chosen by our good friend, ValleyFan!

    GLASS

Pictures submitted to this thread should all reflect (har har) something to do with the theme. Of course, individual interpretation of the Challenge’s theme is what makes will make the photographs unique but please, explain the artistic intent of the image if it isn’t obvious! YOUR LGK PEERS ARE YOUR CRITICS, so don’t try pullin’ a fast one!! Please remember critiques are not personal attacks, take them with grain of salt and apply it towards your art!

PLEASE FOLLOW THE RULES OF THE LGK PHOTO CHALLENGE THREADS, which can be found by clicking the link below.

    LGK Photo Challenge Rules

This thread will be heavily moderated (by adhering to the rules) to maintain an easy format. Following the rules will help me keep this thread from straying from its original intent, so "Thank You!" in advance!

This Challenge ends at NOON on Friday, January 25, 2008! You have TWO WEEKS to get your best images into your photo post! REMEMBER, you don’t have to put them all up at once, but you have to have at least one image in your image post to openly critique or applaud others!

Start carrying your cameras with you, everyone! I can’t wait to see what we all come up with!

Please PM me with any questions or concerns!

    LET'S GET IT ON!!

    Default FBJ's photo post!!

You can see more of the images I shot for this Challenge in my gallery, HERE.

Gotta have the right glass for the task, right?

Off-camera flash, tripod, scotch, highball glass

World-War II era artificial horizon and autopilot:

    Off-camera flash, tripod

    Heirloom cut-crystal goblets:

    tripod, circular polarizer filter

    Disaster!!

circular polarizer filter, sailor talk, broom, dustpan

Mirror on Alter Wall at San Fernando Mission:

tripod, remote shutter release, piety +20

Stained Glass at San Fernando Mission (Note the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch):

2x teleconverter, tripod, remote shutter release, ability to count to "3" and not "4" or "2"

Uh...Not sure what these are, but they're glass "knobs" that are about two inches in diameter:

Off-camera flash placed underneath the clear-acrylic tray they were sitting on.

Adding colored glass to a clear glass tube while it spins on a lathe:

    Fire in the tube:

    Silly face:

kid, sliding glass door, glass cleaner, paper towels

    Cut-crystal bowl:

Inspired by several others here. Crystal bowl, LED penlight, laser pointer, tripod, fisheye lens. 30 second exposure in a dark room. Only thing that was changed in post was the hue of the laser's color.

    What the?!?!

12mm extension tube, Wife, Mother-In-Law's old glass eye.

    Default Deuce's Photo Post!!

Just something that was around the house, Im getting my new lens Tuesday so I'll get better shots up later next week. REMEBER: Im a rookie and all the help/critique I can get is WANTED and APPRECIATED!

UPDATE: OK, so you guys are all phenomenal and I shouldn't really be posting here since Im a complete rookie. I don't have a tri-pod, mono-pod, lights, or any other cool crap but I attempted to get creative with what I had. This photos were taken in my bathroom against a mirror. There are two candles and their reflections. I took them with my 50mm F/1.4

Hah! Cool, Steve! That'd be REALLY cool if your glasses were in-focus and everything else was out of focus EXCEPT what we can see through the lenses! That'd probably involve more photoshop skills than I have (or would be allowed for the Challenge), but you might be able to sort of do it by getting the camera to focus on the frames and playing with the camera's aperture.

Nice comp/color in goblet shot #2 Glenn.

Weather permitting, I'm going to try something I have been meaning to try tonight. I'm going to set up the LX-200 and try to do a wide angle, time lapse reflection shot of the front glass reflecting Orion.

Hopefully the clouds will clear. If not, I'll have to settle for a sunset shot.

Sucks I cant find my remote...timer shots are a pain with limited subject time...

EDIT: BTW, I use photobucket for hosting...

    Default Nocturn's photo post!

    Here's my first entry:
(EDIT: I posted a pic of the same subject earlier today but tooled around with the f-stop, lighting and BB bags and got the better photo here.)

Nikon D80, New Sigma DG 105mm Macro @F-32, tripod, natural light, slight crop
Lennox Crystal Snowflake with a 3 crunched up Best Buy bags behind it.

For those that think I'm kidding or that you need some elaborate shot set up...you dont>>>>>

Everyday objects in the right light/placement/magnification can turn out nice photos...

    Now lets see um.

    Photo #2:

Reflection of Cresent moon on Lx200 lens
    Nikon D80, Sigma 105mm DG @ F-2.8 for 10 seconds, Tripod, 7&7

Couldnt get Orion. SE skies were cloudy. Lucked out in the SW sky with a 10 minute window. Notice the ice clouds on the primary.

    Photo#3:

    "The Upset Fan."
Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-55mm VR DG @ f/14; 4 seconds @ 1000 iso, IN B&W. No processing including crop.....you see it as she was shot.....

    Photo#4

    Vase
    D80, 18-55mm Nikkor, f-16 @ 10sec, iso 200, tripod

Glass Vase washed by a mini Mag-Lite for 10 seconds.
Took it last week and forgot about it until last night. Thank god for wireless access in hotels.

    Nocturn,

That's a nice pic! I like the idea of the plastic bag behind it to give it some color. Great shot! Seems like that Sigma does an okay job, eh?

Can't wait to see some more!

    PuckMonkey,

Those are cool! I like the second one most. How'd you light them and shoot them? Tripod? Handheld? I can't see any EXIF in your lightroom gallery.
