Try this: Search for "google maps .apk". Look for version 6.0 or higher, and (manage to) download the .apk file to your computer (for free). (Recommend installing anti-virus on your kindle fire before doing this). Then simply move the .apk file to dropbox (or whatever method you wish to transfer the file to your kindle). In my case, when kindle fire finished downloading the .apk file, it automatically prompted for installation.
By the way, the Google Maps App is sooooooooooo much better than the webpage version!! The webpage version don't even allow snapping.....
