I love mine. I couldn't give any tips in regards to functioning better or whatever, but I would suggest keeping an eye on the deals amazon constantly does for books, apps, and the instant video. I've gotten several things on sale and have saved probably close to $100 since xmas using them. A lot of times there is garbage on there, but there are also some sweet deals for some really useful things as well.Originally Posted by SirJW

Can't open some can't find others.
Tried to get Skyfire, the web page says successful but I can't find it.
Did you get the lgk app? I can't find it in the app store also can't find google maps.

I have my magazines synced. Hmm maybe I'll even get a paper?
I know that amazon is more restrictive than the standard Android marketplace so I'm not sure if the LGK app is in there. Might have to go through an approval process to be honest. Found this regarding other browsers. Not sure if it would help, but it looks like something to be cautious of anyway as it will likely void the warranty.
As far as docs go, I've been lucky so far and haven't had any issues. Having said that, I haven't used that bit too much. I've emailed them all to my Kindle address (lame way of delivery but whatever) and they arrived soon afterwards.
From what I've read, no Google apps are available for the Kindle Fire. Not sure why. I'm guessing Amazon threw in some of their own apps that work just as well for e-mail, market and other stuff. Other than rooting, i'm not sure there's a way to get the Google apps on the Fire.
As far as documents, is there a document reader app of any kind installed on the tablet? If not, download one of the free office document apps, and try using that.
Also, do you know if the Fire allows you to side load .apk files? Meaning, can you install applications that are not downloaded from the marketplace via file explorer?
Did a quick Google search and found this;

(Recommend installing anti-virus on your kindle fire before doing this). Then simply move the .apk file to dropbox (or whatever method you wish to transfer the file to your kindle). In my case, when kindle fire finished downloading the .apk file, it automatically prompted for installation.
By the way, the Google Maps App is sooooooooooo much better than the webpage version!! The webpage version don't even allow snapping.....
I got the fire for two of my kids for xmas but haven't had the chance to check them out yet. I am going to check out the feature where you can borrow ebooks from your library as opposed to buying them all the time. Hopefully it will be a money saver. The kids are most pleased with the netflix app so they can lay in bed and watch a movie if they want.
I was going to get the Nook Color for my dad so he can read his magazines that he likes. I als did some research and found that the screen is not so glary as the Kindle. I don't know if that is completely true or not.
I've heard similar things as well. I can say that, outdoors, the Kindle is pretty much unreadable. However, since I use it 99% of the time indoors, that's what I judge it on. In that respect I don't have any issues with glare. You can see reflections. . .but it doesn't bother me personally.
