I would like to take LGK on the road and be able to go to Starbuck's and log in there and do what I do from home. This would give me a lot of freedom and my wife some time to enjoy the house to herself for a change.
How much would I have to spend for a laptop that would permit me to do this? Any recommendations?
The laptop isn't going to be the problem. What you'll need is either a laptop with wifi built in or buy a PC card/usb wireless network card. Also you'll have to sign up and pay for wireless service at starbucks. They offer price per day ($9.99/day or $29.99 month) but again you'll only be able to use it at a hotspot plus there's no security and since you plan to log on and download/upload valiable LGK data this might not be the best way.
Your best bet is to talk get broadband wireless from Sprint/Verizon. The prices run around $60/month for Sprint and you can get access to the internet without having to find a hotspot. Plus it's more secure than using hotspots.
Or if you have a Sprint EVDO phone you can get their unlimited data access for $39.99 or you can get their Power Vision for $15 and buy a third party software (I could go on but I believe this is the point where everyone stopped reading).
you forgot to mention those prices are per month.

I've been able to get really quick speeds when my bars are full.

I got it from the Apple store and if you go to the school part you get a discount for being a student of having someone that is a student get it for you. I upgraded the memory so it was a little more. The Apple store online you can do it and they will get it to you in a few days. If you go to the store it cost $75.00 more since the memory is already in the computer and you just buy the bigger memory.
If you don't like MAC's forget this post.
Get a new wife?

IF you gte a laptop with the EXPRESS card technology Its a bit more expensive than free. They also have a USB option.
Spend around $600-$800 and you could probably find a halfway decent notebook. If you need some more specific help, call me.
As for wireless internet, its almost to the point where its convenient, but its still probably 5 years away from being widely available. You can go with a wireless provider, but its gonna cost you $50-$60/month. But hey, its a business expense, so you can write it off at the end of the year. Get a cell phone that you can get internet access through, and go about it that way. You may only use it once or twice, or you may love it and use it all the time.
Just got a Inspirion 1505 from dell with Vista and I LOVE it!
Hubby and I are trying to get the Verizon express card for this computer and if it works anything like it did for out order laptop, You will love it. It is a little pricey a month but its worth it if you are on the road a lot
I paid $2800 for the Dell Laptop that I am using at this moment. I also have 2 other Dells that I recently purchased, on sale for $799 for 2 employees. Those 2 work great and really made me think that I wasted my money on the expensive one. Next purchase will NOT be the cutting edge/just released product. Dell is always running specials plus they have really good lease terms.
Here ia a link to the laptops I bought for my employees http://www.dell.com/content/products...en&s=bsd&cs=04
Ther are currently priced at $649. After adding the options you want, ram, bluetooth? etc. you should be around the $800 mark.
Also search for "dell coupon codes" there are many electronic coupons out there. Here is a link to one site http://www.4computercoupons.com/dell-coupons.html
I would put as much RAM in it as you can afford. Stay away from glossy screens. The reflections are enough to drive a grown man to tears.
When you search the dell site you have two options: Home/personal or small business. Different computer configurations are offered. Check both sites as the best deals will not be on both sites. I think the business site has better financing options. Since this site is a business for you the lease payments should be 100% tax deductible against your revenues.
My only complaint with Dell is that delivery times are sometimes long. They offer decent support though. I recently lost a hard drive and they sent e a new one. Their is a page on the support site where I typed in my service tag number and all of the software that was delivered with my laptop was on that page so that I could download it again.
