    Default Laptop problems, need help!

So I own a HP laptop...a few years old. Its been experiencing some overheating. So I was using the laptop and then the screen just went to a bunch of lines...cant see anything. So I shut off the laptop and restart it, and it turns on, then shuts off three seconds later, then turns on again and shuts off again and repeats the same cycle, shuts off and on in three seconds. The screen is totally blank. The computer stays on when I go into recovery mode, but still no screen. Any tips how I can get it working. Is it the video card? Thanks all

Plug a monitor into the monitor port on the computer to see if it is the screen or the video card. As for the over heating it probably is toast. I also have a HP laptop that has recently been over heating and I am just waiting for it to die. it is only a matter of time. The only way I can keep using it is when I have a fan blowing on it while I am using it.

My wife had an HP that had a heat problem from the start. She bought one of those fans that sits underneath the laptop and blows air up to try to cool the laptop. The thing lasted till a week after the warranty expired and then fried.

Your problem sounds more internal. I don't think a fried video card would cause the computer to reboot every 3 seconds. Maybe a hard drive, but I'm more of a pc guy then laptop so what the do i know lol.

The main problem your gonna have with HP though is getting a replacement part if it's not warrantied as HP is a lot like Dell. You can't just buy after market parts, and HP parts are pretty expensive.

Try pulling out the battery and running it on only AC power and see if it boots that way.
And thats how you get ants!
