Thread: LCD HDTV help needed, please

I think you got off to the wrong start from the beginning. You said you wanted the best picture quality, and then you dismissed plasma's right from the start, basically cutting off your options.

If picture quality is your #1 priority, you definately need to consider them. This coming from a former LCD lover, who has moved all of his LCD sets into other rooms as they can't hold a candle to his Panasonic 58" plasma.

The sad thing is - instead of allowing manufacturers to refine and streamline this tech, due to energy issues, plasma's are being punished and inferior technology is winning the battle. This INCLUDES LEDS, BTW, while very sleek and nifty, still can't match the true black levels of a good plasma.

I made that statement based on research I did in January 2008. A few posts later i said that after I started reading around I found that plasma lifespans are now comparable to LCD. Pretty significant advance in technology in less than 2 years.

Based on what we saw at Best Buy last night I am inclined to agree with you that plasma does have the best true life picture reproduction.

Comparing green grass on a football game between plasma and LED the plasma had the truer reproduction.

I want to compare flesh tones, black, red, blue and other colors today.

The only thing I can suggest is prepare for a bump in your electric bill. I'm not going to lie - I actually noticed it - especially this summer, which was actually cooler than last summer. I have a 58" Panny, and it does put out quite a bit of heat. The more recent models are supposed to be a little leaner in this regard.

Of course, I was driven to plasma because of the size I wanted - 58" or bigger. LCDs in this price range are still absolutely ridiculous in comparison price-wise.

I noticed a little increase in the electric bill since upgrading. Mine is a 50" Samsung, but I also added an Onkyo 806 as well.

Wait a sec . . . the Harmony PS3 adapter has been available for some time now. I use a cheap IR adapter that I bought at Circuit City at closeout that allows my Harmony 880 to control EVERYTHING on my PS3 except power on/off for $4.99. Harmony even had the adapter codes available, so set up was a breeze.

The official PS3 adapter allows everything, including power on/off.
