LED technology will probably be what eventually replaces both plasma and LCD as the standard in flat panels. We'll see.
I will say that my Vizio (VO47L) is a pretty good TV. I do want to see the new one that is coming out in Nov. with all of its features and the LED backlighting.
My room is very bright so I needed to get an LCD (plus my wife is really bad with pausing the TV and then going out to run errands and not turning the set off...one time even for 3 hours (grrr)
Get what you want is the big thing. I know I could of had a Sony Bravia for 400 more, but that was 400 more I saved towards the table my wife wanted when we moved. Plus, we got a killer panel mount system/media center for the TV. Maybe I will go bigger for the TV we have outside
Modern plasmas come with an orbital pixel chingaderra that shifts pixels over every so often making the issue of burn-in irrelevant.
Like you said, it all comes down to what you want. I find the anti-glare on the Panasonic to be great, it sits in a living room with cathedral ceilings and 3 skylights. Never had a single complaint about brightness, and I keep it dialed down pretty low, not at retina-searing Vivid mode.
One more suggestions: When looking at plasmas in stores, try changing the video setting from Vivid to standard/normal to get a truer look at the set in more normal conditions. Plus, it'll extend the longevity of the set by a fair amount.:awesome:
JR, my TV is right next to the window so it always seems that my left side (as I am looking at it) becomes more washed out than the other side. I dunno, the YMCA I worked at had old plasmas in the locker room and left it on CNN daily with the ticker at the bottom and the burn in image is still in my head to this day
52" is too big for the living room. Looks like 46" to 50" will be the size. We have a family connection to the Pacific Sales in Cerritos so we'll be going there later this week to see what kind of deal we can get.
- Home Theater System
- BluRay player
We have been more than happy with our Panasonic TH-50PX75U 50" plasma TV. We've had it since 2007.
And it sits next to a window. And it gets paused. And it gets PS3 games played on it. And Wii games. And it's been fine so far.
