Default Looking for a new computer

It's for my fiancee for X-mas. She's a school teacher, so she necessarily does a lot of word processing, power point, so on and so forth. I'd prefer she get a Mac like me, but that just isn't realistic given her work. So, I'm enlisting the masses in helping me choose a reliable, semi-cheap, PC that will do her justice. Thanks in advance

You sure ? You can always put Virtual PC or partition the hard drive to run both on the Mac. I bought a new Mac Mini and I'm loving it. It is solidly built, somewhat reasonably priced and not an energy hog.

For that budget, you will have plenty to choose from. You can get a nice HP Pavilion dv6t with an Intel Core i5 processor and 8GB of RAM for around $750-800. Or you can get a Macbook Air, which starts at $999. If $1000 is a firm budget, I would go with the HP dv6t and order it online. You can check one out at Best Buy or Staples. Most retailers will carry them in store, but you can customize the laptop if you order it online and get the extended warranty, which I would highly suggest.

This is from HP's website for $983 + taX and shipping. Wait until Black Friday and see if HP has an online sale or look for a HP coupon code online, and you will be at your $1000 limit. Its a nice laptop, comes with all of the specs you'll want, and it comes with Office 2010 and a 2 year warranty. All you need is a laptop case and a second AC adapter if you want one.

You can save on a Mac by going refurb and getting the extra memory on your own.

Refurbished Mac Computers - Refurbished Laptops, Notebooks & Desktop Computers - Apple Store (U.S.)

Memory for MacBook, MacBook Pro 2GB, 4GB, 8GB & Now 16GB - OWC Certified RAM for Apple Mac with Lifetime Warranty

Make sure to go for Lion. I just upgraded to a Feb 2011 Mac and all the quirks on my older Mac are gone! Love how much faster everything is.

The HP DM4 is a pretty solid deal. Can't go wrong with an i5.
