Not much of a difference in my opinion.

Pretty much if you combined both it was close to 20% discount.

i've basically come to the conclusion that all of these tvs are awesome. i'm leaning towards the panasonic plasma right now because its on sale this week. kingtaco, are you talking about the sharp lcd? because i calibrated my sister's sharp for her. if you are talking about the sharp, it looks AMAZING after calibration.

Are there any DIY calibration tools out there? I just can't afford to spend the $300 for a prefessional. Any suggestions?

DIY calibrations are better than no calibration, Video Essentials and AVIA are good discs to use. Keep in mind that different video inputs sometimes have separate memories. You might need to write down all the settings are copy them to the other inputs.

Stay away from the Sharps. A couple of years ago my Parents bought that gave them nothing but troubles. I happened to be in the market for a tv as well and when I went to best buy every open box/refurbished models were all Sharps. Im at Costco the other day and noticed a guy returning his TV, casually asked him what was wrong and he said the Volume is very erratic; sure as hell it was a Sharp.

Their products may have gotten better but with that kind of money why risk it?

For the Record-Ive got a Samsung that has never given me any problems at all.

If you really wanted to go on the cheap the THX demos on the Star Wars discs are passable as well.
