Thread: Looking for new TV. Advice??

Hey guys, my parents are looking to buy a new tv and i've been put in charge of finding them one.

i've narrowed down my search to three tvs. they're thinking about the 46" -50" range.

1. Panasonic 42" 1080P Plasma TH-42PZ77U (would like the 50" version of this tv, but price is a little too much. anyone know of any deals on the 50" version of this tv?)

2. Sharp 46" 1080P LCD LC-46D64U
(my sister just bought the 52" version of this and she loves. i set it up for her, and i think its amazing, so if anyone knows of a deal for the 46" version, i'm all ears.)

3. Samsung LNT4665F 46" 1080p LCD HDTV
(i don't know a whole lot about this tv, but i've read great reviews and the picture quality looks awesome).

anyways, can you guys offer up any advice? personal experience with any of these tv's. i don't want to make this a price thread, but i'd also appreciate it if you guys mentioned any deals on any of the above mentioned tvs. i'm also open to other models that you guys would recommend.

What's your price range? Is there anything they're looking for in a TV? What will they mainly use the TV for..(DVD, HD, etc.)?

Of those three, I would go with the Samsung.

I recently purchased the Panasonic at Sears and got an incredible deal. Best Buy had it for $1799. I headed over to Sears and it was $1399 with an additional $150 off if I used my Sears card. Got it out the door for $1249 plus tax. I have absolutely no complaints about the TV. I'm not the most A/V technical person in the world so this TV suits me just fine. I believe the $1399 price is still available at Sears.

My brother just purchased the Sharp Aquos at Best Buy on Black Friday and also got an amazing deal. I think the regular price is $2399 and he got it for $1399. Doubt that pricing is still around but I can say that the TV is beautiful and setup was super easy. We had it out of the box and running with his PS3 in about 10-15 minutes.

I was about inches from buying that TV on black friday @ Circuit City. It was such a great deal, less then 1100.00 after AAA discount and Time Warner... oh well

So many plasma TV's use Panasonic glass so do your research. Sometimes you can find differently branded TV that's less expensive that uses Panasonic glass. They've been regarded as one of the best plasma displays for years now.

they want to spend less than $1500, so i am on the hunt for sales. They watch HD cable, dvds and blu rays. because of they have a blu ray player, my dad wants to get a 1080P tv. i've seen the samsung and sharp in person and they both look great. i've yet to see the panasonic in person. my only concern with the panasonic is whether its big enough. do you guys see a big difference between a 42inch set and 46 inch set?

don't worry, thats the last brand i'd consider. the only brands i'm considering right now are Sony, Panasonic, Samsung,and Sharp. I don't like LG's and i'm staying the hell away from vizio, westinghouse, element, philips, magnavox, etc.
