My main machine is a G5 that's over 2 years old. Never have upgraded any hardware, never once have had to re-install any software, much less the entire OS. I work on hundreds of video gigabytes at a time in Final Cut Pro. I regularly process multiple >400 mb files in Photoshop. I've recorded more than 24 tracks of audio (in stereo) with FC Studio, and the two times that I needed access to Windows in the past year were not a problem thanks to Virtual PC. I surf the internets and read my email just like everybody else and I've never had a virus (don't even own anti-virus software).

But I will man up and admit that last summer, Photoshop did crash on me once.

That's great buddy....but when I said bs line I was referring to his insinuation that PC owners have to upgrade their PCs every 6 months.

I have a question...I was checking out the desktops at apple.com just to see how much they cost nowaday and I noticed something that I would like a little clarification on.

Does a desktop computer really 32gb OF RAM for the upgrade cost of $9100???

What the hell would all of that be used for? I would imagine that this would be for HD Video editing in the movie industry.

Being able to edit and burn directly to Blu-Ray while at home in one's underwear is apparently worth $9100 to some.

My main machine is one I built that's over 2 years old. Never have upgraded any hardware, never once have had to re-install any software, much less the entire OS. I download hundreds of video gigabytes of porn a week. I surf the internets and read my email just like everybody else and I've never had a virus (don't even own anti-virus software).

But I will man up and admit that in 1999, Windows 98 did crash on me once.

For those Mac folks who boast that they don't have any viruses, yet don't have any antivirus software... How is it you know that you don't have a virus on your computer? I mean, there ARE viruses for OSX, although not nearly as many as for PC. But how would you even know if you are or aren't infected if you don't even have antivirus software?

PS - Ive been using AVG Free for years now, and I haven't had a problem with viruses, nor the countless other people I have setup using AVG. I'll see viruses attached to MP3s or videos or software that I'll download over the net, but Ive never had some kind of catastrophic crash where I lose all my files, and it puts a skull and crossbones on my screen.
And thats how you get ants!

Kinda like all that bull**** you ate up from PC fanboys and then regurgitated in this thread?

Because I don't execute any binaries, tar files or gzipped archives if I don't know what they are and OS X isn't stupid enough to run **** without you knowing.

There is one trojan, but you still have to be dumb enough to run it yourself and it doesn't even work on intel macs.

Speaking for myself, I'm living a low-risk lifestyle. Don't download, file share, or even click those tempting .exe files that come free in my emails promising nude pictures of Bea Arthur. And I have enough IT types in my life that, in the event of something bad making the rounds, I will hear about long before I would need to be concerned about it. I have discs being sent from my network every other day that are being pre-screened and pre-flighted to the point that if I have even a corrupt screen font, I'm getting a phone call. If I had a lot of incoming, then I'd not be as passive about it. And trust me, I'm typing this with one hand because I'm knocking on wood the whole time with the other, especially since OSX. In the past when I had worries of a virus, I'd use McAfee, but it has been so long that I'm not even familiar with AVG. But eventually, I'm sure that will become a reality.
