I didn't know that, but thanks for the heads-up. I called and I'll be able to exchange my current one for a new one.

You'd better get that in writing. They usually charge a 15% restocking fee for anything returned that's open, and you have to return it within 2 weeks...

    Listen to Bandit.

I hope you purchased it through Amazon because they're very lax on their return policy, but if you're doing this through Best Buy or Apple, I'd get this done in person. Meet the manager and get this return authorization in writing.

Check every Tuesday (apple.com) if it's been updated. The timeframe, according to rumors, should be four weeks, so it makes it even tougher on you if it was purchased through Apple (14 day return policy) and Best Buy (14 day return policy on computers).

Already done. We have a special work purchase program through Apple that gives us more flexibility (and a nice discount!). Since I ordered it through work, it's not a problem.

    Default Help.

HEY, so I was going to buy a MACbook this weekend.

Are you guys saying that I should wait now because of the upcoming updates?

Or does this not effect me so much since I'm just getting the basic Mac book and not the pro or mini....

The MacBook and MacBook Pro were just refreshed a week or so ago, so you're relatively safe.

Do you need the computer NOW? Are you a student, if so, wait for June for their Back to School program (free iPod after rebate).

For consumers interested in the iMac and Mini, it's best to wait. They should be refreshed within a month.

Actually, I do work (my day job) for San Diego High School so I'm eligible for that 10% discount. That's makes it very appealing.

ALSO, I wanted to ask: Should I pay the couple extra hundred bucks for the Apple Protection Plan? Do you think I'll need the support over that span a time? OR can I get help just as easily from a friend or people on LGK?

    And what about "dot Mac?"

Don't EVER buy RAM, Applecare, or .Mac at Apple. You could always buy it elsewhere at a substantial discount.

What type of consumer are you? Do you like to replace your computer on an annual basis or do you own it until it breaks?

Applecare: it's worth it if you or any other user is not computer savvy. Apple hardware has a low failure rate, but you don't really know when/if you'll need it. If anything, it adds additional value to your computer when/if you decide to sell, and you have a year to purchase it.

.Mac: if you travel a lot, this could come in handy. If you enjoy displaying photos and other media, consider it. There is a 30 day trial when you purchase a computer.

Take advantage of that education discount, my friend.

I tend to hold on to computers til they die. My present PC is only being replaced because there's connection problem where the AC adapter plugs in and it charges only sometimes and I can never count on it to keep a connection longer than twenty minutes.

And no I'm not very computer savvy. I'd say I am fairly good with PCs now, and my day job has a few Macs (outdated) that I tinker with, so I'm somewhat familiar, but I think I'm ready for a change.

So if I don't plan on ever selling my Mac after I get it, and, like I said before, I'm in communication with other Mac users, then should I just take the free one year warranty and run with that only?
