Also....not being able to play games is kind of a big deal. It's a huge feature that you have to do without. Also, iTunes isn't all that great. I use it because it organizes stuff for my iPod but I don't use it to rip my music at all. The ripper is a total P.O.S. I swear, if iTunes didn't retreive album cover art I would never have it on my PC. Why bother when I can just use Windows Media Player to wirelessly stream my music to my 360 so that I can listen to it on the home theatre. Can you Mac people do that without installing a Windows OS on your Mac?

Macs are pretty....I'll give them that but I'll take a Sony VAIO laptop over a Macbook any day of the week.

Try comparing your Sony VAIO (btw, I'm sorry about your purchase) to a MacBook Pro.


In terms of the OP's post, what is your budget? Do you prefer a laptop or desktop? Also, do you use Excel for its basic features, or do you do VBA work? I know there were some VBA issues on Office 08 for Mac.

I have a Mac that runs dual boot (XP Pro/Leopard) due to Visual Studio and MS Access. I gave Vista Business a chance, but I eventually upgraded the OS to XP Pro. That **** was a mess.

The learning curve on Mac OS is not as high as you might think. David's Pogue's The Missing Manual on Leopard will greatly help you out if you are intimidated.

My biggest gripe is that Apple doesn't discount its outdated lineup as quickly as PC vendors do. For example, the current MacBook Pro hasn't had a major revision since June '07, yet its price remains the same. Despite having Dell and Co. jump to Penryn processors, Apple uses outdated processors at a premium price. SO, before you make any purchase, make sure you're not buying something that is on the brink of a major update (MBPs, MBs and iMacs are the leading candidates).

Buy a Mac Stan. Don't let the brainwashed douchebags at the Mac store scare you off. All your music, photos, and videos will run much more efficiently on a Mac, and lastly WIndows Vista is THE BIGGEST PIECE OF **** EVER!!!

No, it's not. That's what my gaming console is for. There isn't a single game on the PC that I'm missing out on, and I don't have to spend $500 every 6 months to upgrade my console so that I can play the latest game. If you'll notice, the O.P. didn't even mention games as one of his criteria, yet that's what you're trying to fall back on? FAIL.

Yes, it's called Front Row. Or you can get an airport express and stream music straight from iTunes for $75. Since Mac users aren't on welfare, we can afford it.

Admitting you have a problem is the first step to recovery...

My personal opinion:

If you are an artist of sorts and plan on working with programs like Photoshop, Illustrator, Final Cut Pro, After Effects, etc., then get a MAC.

If you are in the business world, or want to play games, or just want to use it for casual reasons like internet browsing, then get a PC.

My Powerbook (no problems) has lasted me longer than 3 separate PCs did (including repairs). I would never go back to a PC. The only reason I still have my PC is because it is still loading the welcome screen so I can take all the important stuff to my Mac.
