OK, time to chime in. The Mac Genius Bar is very good tech support and most of it's free. Phone support is very good too, you talk to a tech in Austin, Texas and if they can't help they move you up to higher support techs...

As a recent Mac convert... Mac.

I had a VAIO previously and it was a total piece of ****. Ridiculously loud fan, performance dropped to **** after 15 months.

I'm a much bigger fan of OSX too.

In my opinion Mac has everything you need all in one laptop.

I'm no computer wizard and my self esteem in no way hinges on whether or not I have the latest awesome tech thing.

    Quick aside here for OP:

I know this is anonymous online chit-chat and it's your thing to be an abrasive braggart but for Pete's sake could you take it down a notch?

Anyway, I bought my Powerbook online at mac.com in the refurb section.

Same warranty, cheaper, no mac store, shipped that day from Cupertino.

I just bought my a new MacBookPro online last month. I am eyeing the Time Capsule external hardrive/wireless hub and will order it online. Apple honors online orders before store orders, fyi.

Also the Mac store, if you must, at the Grove on a weekday may be a good way to go. Valet parking is free if you spend $150 and who doesn't like that?

If you go PC, seriously, avoid Vista.

Bandit...IE Tab is very useful. There a a number of sites out there that are optimized for IE. Sometimes sites don't display properly in Firefox, when this happens just click the button on the bottom of your browser (after IE Tab has been installed) and Firefox will reload the page using IE engine. It works very well, especially with pages that have forms to fill out.

It seems there is a pissing contest going on, so I'm just going to be straight with you. I've used PC's all my life and about 7 months ago I bought a Macbook Pro laptop. I never knew what I was missing. This machine is so great, and runs so much better than any PC I have ever owned. Startup is way faster, programs run smoother, no error messages, ever. All the things you listed that you want to use a computer for can be done on a MAC and very easily. I have iWork, which is MAC's version of Office, and I also have Office for MAC, it's all about preference. I have photoshop, works great. I have iTunes, but you can get windows media player for MAC as well since you don't want an iPod. ripping is easy, and photos is made easy with iPhoto, which comes in a package called iLife that all MACs come with. If you are a hardcore gamer or strapped for cash, then I would go with a PC, but for everything else, Mac is seriously ahead of the curve. I would never go back to a PC. Hope that helps. Oh, and OP, your choice of teams is whack, so I should have known your choice of computers would be too. =)

Macs are pretty....I'll give them that but I'll take a Sony VAIO laptop over a Macbook any day of the week.
Connect 360 my friend. I stream all my media to my XBOX just like you do. There arent to many big time programs that arent MAC compatible. I have parralles installed on my MacBook and the ONLY time I use it is when I run Poker Tourneys and I need The Tournament Director.

Its really simple, if you have the extra money buy a MAC. They do everything a PC does and the hardware is just better. If you dont have the extra cash buy a PC and Im sure you will be happy with that as well as long as you come your anti-virus up to date.

    Its THAT simple.

why is it that Mac users complain about viruses and error messages on PC all the time. Honest to God, I don't get them. Could it be that some of you guys just don't know how to take care of a PC? It's really not that hard. Trust me. A little knowledge goes a long way.

Once in a while if my laptop hibernates my wireless card goes batty...then I restart. Problem solved.
