Thread: Mac or PC?

So, the gf and I are thinking about getting a new computer, and a Mac seems to be the way to go these days. But, to qoute my gf "They look like an uncircumsized penis - sure it'll probably do the job, but it just looks wierd."

I went to an Apple store to check one out, but came out more confused about them. First, that store creeped me out. It was like everything and everyone in it was covered in Nutra-Sweet. It came off like a front for a meth lab or child pornography ring. Plus, every employee in the store was a budget douchebag. "Oh, you have a PC, I feel so sorry for you you pathetic POS" Really, old lady who couldn't answer my question -stfu. And no, I don't want to buy an Iphone or Ipod or a service pack for a product I don't own.

So, are these things worth it? Or is it a better idea to pick up a new PC instead?

If yes, which one? Is the damn thing really just a moniter? And what's up with that crappy mouse?

Can I use my Wacom tablet & mouse on it?
How is it for add-ions - extra drives, printers, scanners, and such?
It seems you can run Microsoft Excel on it - is this true?

They also seem to come with a buch of programs I'll probably never use, can I get rid of them?

Mostly it would be used for:

Internet
Photoshop/Corel Painter
Microsoft excel
Pictures and probably videos in the future
Music (Mp3 player) - Ican rip cd's to it, right?
Other **** I can't think of right now.

PC for compatibility reasons alone. Plus it lets you take advantage of lots of good stuff that you just can't do on Mac. If you know how to run an anti-virus program (or at least set it up to run at 3am) then you'll nullify Mac's favorite claim of fewer viruses on a Mac.

PC can do everything a Mac can do. The same can't be said the other way around. Hell, Sarafi (Mac's browser) can't even display some web pages properly. WTF?

this is not entirely accurate, and the new Macs can run Windows, so...


really, the only main difference is your budget, and how that ultimately relates to what your desire for the machine is.

Honestly...what Mac owner is going to run windows on his Mac? It kind of defeats the purpose now doesn't it? Anyone who does that would be guilty of tech vanity. I have to have the cutest little laptop so I'm buying a Macbook and running windows on it. Oh, I'm so cute! See how it matches my iPhone?

my need for instance is a perfect example...

Logic Audio (as with just about EVERY professional audio software) runs like dogs*** on a PC, and has since been discontinued for your platform. there is a balls to the wall insane little program called Fruity Loops which is exclusive to PCs and just about the ONLY reason why anyone serious about music would even think of using one... but, wowsers, voilá, i can run Windows on a new Mac (with FL) and bump that s*** straight into Logic.

and i could play all those neato video games. because that's really why most Mac people want Windows for anyway.

again, it's budget, and how that corresponds with your needs out of a particular machine.

If someone has professional needs then I can understand why Mac would be a better choice. BadIdea didn't list a professional need so I recommended PC. If he's professioinal level audio/video/photo work then sure...go for a Mac but if you are just a consumer who is going to be surfing the net, listening to tunes and making a STAMKOOOOOSSSSS picture then stick with PC.
