    Default MagicJack vs Additional Line

Anyone have any experience with Magic Jack? I heard you can get your own phone number to use with it. If that is true-is it better to simply use Magic Jack with a new phone in lieu of having another telephone line installed into my home through AT&T who is my telcom provider??

all i know about it is that old people buy mj from my store, and they complain cause you need "a lot of jiggawatts on your puter." and the computer needs to be on in order to receive or make calls. but i hear good things. but again that's from old, senile people.

I have a magic jack but I only use it to screen calls and fax documents. The sound quality is pretty good and I have no problems sending and receiving faxes.

Does Magicjack generate a new phone number as well or simply uses the old phone number? Would it be better for a home business as opposed to say an additional line?

Almost got a Magoc Jack a few months ago. The two reason Idid not were.....

1.You must leave your computer on all dy adn night in order to receive calls.

    2. You CANNOT port your old number, you HAVE TO get a new number. Rumor has it you will be able to port(keepm old #) in the near future.

I use it as a business line for my conference calls I make when I work at home. After hours I let any calls go straight to voicemail. The thing I love about the magic jack is I can call forward any of my calls to my cell phone if I'm out of the office. Everything is done online.

Sounds Great....did it generate a new phone number through the software or is that something you have to do through the Telco?

You get the new number when you install the software and register. Everything is done online at my.magicjack.com after you register and you can receive online chat support if you need help.

I may just go and buy it outright, read enough reviews and it meets my needs for a fraction of the cost and BS involved with going through the phone company to set up an AL and what not. Heck, with AT&T its 13 bucks a month for an extra line and number-To do Magic Jack for a year ends up saving me $100 for a year as well as the $50 dollar service charge.
