I'll post a screenshot of my Droid x as soon as i finish updating the SDK program i use for screen caps.

What you'll notice most about ROMS first is the look. It's like changing the UI on your PC. Most ROMs will change the taskbar look and color, all icons and pretty much every app that comes installed. The next thing you'll notice is the sheer speed. All the ROMs out now have removed all the bloat that comes pre installed on the phone, some even overclock your phone but i stay away from that, it's too risky.

The one thing i've noticed with custom roms is much better battery life. Maybe it's because of no bloat running in the background but i can have my X off the charger for 9-10 hours and still have 70% battery life.

I can't explain how to go about doing it without knowing what type of a phone you have but google it. There are quite a few websites the provide step by step instructions and links on what to download.

Keep in mind there is always a risk when it comes to installing ROMS, rooting is the easy part. You can very easily brick your phone by putting a ROM on your phone that doesn't work with your current build so pay attention. i know from experience and am on my second droid :P

Ok here are 2 screen shots of 2 completely differnt ROMS.

First one is kind of old but i belive it was Fission ROM

Second one is new and is called Liberty 1.0, i use a theme on it called Revolution Remix.

Screen cap of the second one is a little small. It's the program i use called ShootMe and for some reason this is as big as it gets.......go figure.

I have a droid x as well. I was reading around on androidcentral.com about rooting it.

More battery life would be great! I am paranoid of bricking the phone though lol. Will probably do this over the weekend.

Google Z4root. It's a 1 click tool for rooting and unrooting your phone.

Ha, I did the z4root about an hour ago. Playing around with it now. So far, I have the wireless tether and a screenshot app. Now I have to read up on ROMs and see what else I can do while rooted.

Also, how can I delete the apps that came with the phone? Kindle, Amazon MP3, etc.?

Good thing about custom ROMS is, they do it for you so you don't delete something you shouldn't. But download Titanium Backup. You can delete unwanted programs through there. Again be careful what you delete and always make a system backup before you do.

I did the titanium backup yesterday before installing the ROM.
Then I installed the fission ROM. Got it installed, but now all my info is gone.
I did the backup through titanium, but it didn't restore the contacts or old texts.
I might just do the restore from the backup that I did while installing the ROM. Kind of annoying to lose all my old data.

Edit: Got all my old texts reset somehow.
Now...is there a site that is easy to navigate through that shows all the different ROMs? I found this one: http://androidforums.com/droid-x-all...roms-here.html but it is just a list, no screenshots.

Don't freak out when all your info is gone. You basically have to wipe your phone when installing a ROM and everything, except for what is on the SD card is gone. don't worry your contacts will restore once your phone syncs and when you go to the market it will download everything you lost when you wiped.

I'm having trouble getting my contacts back. I had them backed up through verizon's backup assistant, but that isn't on my phone anymore with fission. Also, I had them (or thought I did) backed up through Lookout Security, but when I click "restore" through lookout's website, it's not working. When I went through my contacts on lookout's site, almost none of them have numbers. WTF?

Everything else seems to have restored, but I need my contacts. This is annoying me, and the Kings aren't helping lol.

I have fission rom manager 1.2.4 LITE, do you have the full version?
