Thread: My home computer is running S...L...O...W It needs a "tune up" I guess?!

Is there someone or a company or SOMETHING that can help me get my home computer back running normal? With two kids and a wife and full time jobs between us and my wife in college getting her 2nd Masters, I need someone to come to my house to fix it or whatever. I just don't have the time to take it anywhere.

Does anyone know someone that can help me out?

Defragment the harddrive. Run Adaware. Clear your cookies.

That' be a very good start. Also run a scan to make sure you don't have any viruses eating up your resources. Also check your background processes.

Also go to download.com and get ccleaner. It cleans up a lot of junk. Also doesn't hurt if you have windows defender on your PC. What kind of Virus Protection do you have??? If you don't have AVG, try it. I like it a lot better than Norton or Mcafee.

The only thing I hate about AVG is that you can't control when it scans. It just scans every time you boot up, and you can't schedule anything.

I just run the scans manually. You can disable it from scanning on it's own.

What would you recommend for the best free firewall out there??? I just gave up on Zone Alarm as it was causing problems... BTW...I'm still holding on to Win2000...
