Thread: Need PC Build Help ASAP...

This hasn't been a good month or two for me, technology-wise. Wifes 'puter literally went up in smoke last night.

Anyhow, a trip to Fry's got me a new stack of **** to put together. This is about the sixth PC I've built in the last two years, and for some reason, this build is ****ing with me in a big way.

I can't get the computer to initial POST. No signal out to the monitor, no beeps, no HDD access. Fans run, etc. But nothing else.

Checked the RAM's seating. It's right and in the right slots. Processor is seated properly.

Mainboard is a MSI 770-C45 with a AMD Phenom II X3710 2.6Ghz processor.

The only odd thing I'm doing is re-using the IDE DVD-Rom drives from her old system.

PLEASE HELP!!!

is there a reason you are building your own instead of buying a dell or an HP, for instance?

what power supply are you running? maybe the MB is bad? maybe a bad HD?

btw, I hate frys. almost 1/2 of everything I've ever bought in that store I've had to return because it was not working.

Pull out everything and start from scratch with just the board, PS, and RAM. If you don't get POST there, I'd say its the board.

If you do, add things one at a time until you find what's horxed.

Board, video board, CPU, and ram = no post.

Is it safe to try and get it to POST without the CPU?

Had it happen 3x. All 3 times it was the board. And amazingly, they came from Fry's.

just tried it without the CPU...just the bare board, the ram and the PS connected....****.

Is there any chance this might be a vid board issue??

Does it have Onboard Video?

No.

I'm about to rip the vid card out and try it out in this system.
