Thread: New iPhone 4S - Excited or disappointed?

Seems like people are split on the new phone. People now have high epectations about Apple product introductions. This time there was a longer time interval between phone models than in the past, so people probably expected some extra coolness, like LTE or a new form factor. Yet there was no radical new technologies, just improvements... although the Siri feature looks pretty cool if it works they way they describe it. Actually, lot of the innovation is really just in the new OS--and that's going to be available to iPhone 3Gs and 4 users.

One interesting twist is that it is now a true world phone (both GSM and CDMA), so Verizon customers can now take the phone overseas. Also, Sprint is selling it now and they still offer unlimited data plans. Will these developments mean trouble for AT&T?

Any thoughts?

I'm pretty excited for it. I was waiting for the iPhone 5 to get my first iPhone (and first smartphone, actually) so I was a little bummed, but then I realized it's just the name. So many people are disappointed because it isn't the iPhone 5. I was kind of hoping for 4G, but I like how the iPhone 4 looks so I'm not disappointed it hasn't been redesigned, and this is supposed to have better battery life, more speed, better camera, etc. The Siri feature looks pretty awesome as well.

For the most part, I'm just trying to decide if I want the black or white one.

Some people are disappointed and I am not sure why. What more do people want? I can see maybe a bigger screen. Some may want LTE but that seems to be a major battery drain. You have an upgraded processor, more ram, better camera, a world phone, dual antennas. I guess it may be a disappointment for those that already have an iPhone 4. I have an iPhone 3GS so this is an upgrade for me. I am going to buy one. I haven't decided if I will stay with AT&T or go with Verizon.

I have the 3GS and while its been a good phone, I'm excited for the new model. My husband has the 4 and I've been wanting to steal it since the day he got it. I'd use more of the features on that sucker than he would. Its wasted on him. So I'm excited to get the 4S because it is a true upgrade for me. Anyone with a 4 might not think so.

And I'm really looking forward to meeting my new friend Siri. Someone needs to keep me in line!

I will get it. I'm also interested in iCloud. Not quite sure how it works?!?!

BE WARNED the iPhone 5 will be out early March with LTE and a bigger screen. If you dont NEED a new phone it would be worth the wait.

BTW the new improved camera on the iphone is compliments of Sony Ericsson. The funny part is its been out for 4 years on other models. No mention of the eXmore-R processor but I think its being used

I just dont like the way the IPHONE 4 looks. I think a bigger screen would be a start, and If they make the phone slimmer it would be great. They will have to re-design it before I even think about selling my EVO 3D phone. BTW, the EVO 3D is the best phone Ive ever had... This is saying something since Ive owned about every phone you can think of.

I read a story today where the electronics trades in Asia are predicting the iPhone 5 will be released in late 2012 to early 2013. If they do release a whole new phone less than 6 mos after this one, I'm sure a lot of people wll be pissed off if they just purchased the 4S.

For me and my business, I have 5 iPhone 3GS phones on a group/family plan that are now out of contract with AT&T. In fact AT&T calls about once a week telling me what great deals they can give me on new phones if I re-up with them. I'm in no rush because all the phones still work great and they still have the old unlimited data plan. The new iOS5 upgrade will add a lot of the new features to our old phones. So I can wait.

However, now might be the time to jump ship. I've been seriously considering moving to Verizion, and now with the 4S being a true world phone that I can use outside the US, the decision is a little easier.

I'm concerned about the future of AT&T's network. We already know that Verizon is superior. Going forward, a merger with T-Mobile could mean problems for AT&T customers. It took them years to fully merge the AT&T (Blue) and Cingular (Orange) networks and we suffered through it. Service actually got worse not better. I'm not sure I want to deal with that again. And if the merger is blocked, AT&T has to give up cash and spectrum to T-Mobile, so that will negatively affect their ability to build out their network and deploy LTE.

I imagine there are others out there that are in the same situation I am, so I'm wondering if there might be a mass migration away from AT&T?

I have the 4 and really like it. Personaly, I will wait until the 5 comes out before I consider an upgrade. I wish they would make the phone a little 'sleeker'. Maybe the 5 will have a slightly better shape. Other than that I am happy with the 4.
