I am starting from scratch with a new computer and am looking into Anti-virus/firewall software. My new computer runs Vista and comes with Windows Defender and Windows Firewall. I really don't know enough to trust the free software and am looking into Norton 360. Let me know what your experience is with either or both.
Avoid Norton like the plauge.
If it's not installed when you buy it it is impossible to configure and screws up the operating system.

Get a D-Link router to use as your firewall. CLICK HERE.
Ad Aware SE Personal Anti-Virus is another excellent free program to run along with Windows Defender. CLICK HERE.
Thanks for the tips. I can't open the D-link router link, but I have a question with that anyhow. As i have DSL, does the phone line run to the dsl router 1st and then the d-link? Also what is the web address of the link.

Yeah, not norton.
But keep in mind Defender is NOT antivirus. It's anti-spyware and it does a pretty decent job.
AVG is GREAT for home users anti-virus. Use it WITH Defender.
If you want to buy an all in one package, then get Trend Micro Internet Security.
And always try and use a hardware router as the firewall. D-Link is hands down my favorite brand for this.
Of course if it's a laptop then you need to have a software firewll handy when you take it out to strange networks.

Agree with what everyone is saying.
Norton is worse then the viruses themselves.
I've had Vista with the free AVG software and windows defender on my laptop for about 6 months now, and have had no problems.
Now, just so you know, if you are going to get the D-Link router for DSL (not wireless...I have DSL as well) you will probably at some point have to manually open up one or more ports.
Don't freak out. It's easy. You go to the D-Link site, register your router, open up the configuration page and click a few buttons and specify which ports you want to open and which of the two ways they are to be used. And that's it.
D-Link is in Irvine, CA and their Tech Support is very good. They have their toll free number listed on the manual.
Plus, there are a lot of How to Do It pages on the web for the specific program (Soul Seek, Win MX, etc.......) on how to open the ports. The walkthroughs they provide are really easy to use.
