Ha, I hope there are more smiles than frustration in the long run.

I'm not exactly sure what you're dragging and to where. To load music onto your iPhone from iTunes, you just need to sync the two using iTunes. One of the best ways to do this is create a playlist in iTunes that is only for media you want to sync to your iPhone. Then, in the sync prefs, select that playlist as the only one to sync. I like to make a smart playlist that pulls a random selection out of my larger library, so I am surprised every once in a while.

Just connect your iPhone to the Mac Mini. iTunes should launch automatically. If it does not, you can always open iTunes manually. Then, set up your sync options and sync away.

iTunes doesn't scour the computer for music. There is a set database that is kept in your Music folder in your home folder. This database keeps track of where your music and movie files reside. Normally this is inside a folder called "iTunes Music" inside that same folder, but you've moved it, so now iTunes may not know where any of your music is. The quick solution is just to delete the songs inside iTunes. Be careful when it asks you if you want to delete the associated media files as well, you say no. You don't have to delete them, but if you don't you'll end up with a bunch of duplicate database entries with half of them pointing to the wrong location.

Once you're ready to add your music files back into iTunes, you can either select "Add to Library" (command-o) from the File menu of iTunes or simply open iTunes, click on "Music" in the left column under "Library", then drag the icon of your moved "iTunes Music" folder onto the iTunes window. All the music files inside that folder should now be added back to your iTunes database.

Also, when you import, rip, or otherwise add music to your iTunes, it adds it to your database, but not to your wife's database. That's why when one of you adds music, the other will have to manually add the same music to their iTunes database.

I had already pointed iTunes to where the music now resides. It was seeing everything in that folder on my wife's side of the system, but not on mine.

Anyhow...it's just teething pains with this thing, it appears. I had iTunes rescan that folder this morning and now all the music files are available to listen to.

So I got the new iMac...spent all weekend preoccupied with getting it set up, getting my programs and files onto it, and scanning some old 35mm slides into it...all to the detriment of marriage (sorry hon).

First, I'm glad I got the 2gig vid card.

Second, why the hell didn't I get the 2tb hard drive??? That was stupid.

Third, why THE HELL would iTunes need to "copy files when importing?" Now I have to wade through a ton of duplicate songs or buy a file duplicate finder to erase them, because iTunes won't stop showing them to me. Stupid.
