I appreciate that fact that you recognize "what that makes" you, but it's far more than just a title. As long as you can live with the fines. From what I've been hearing, the a lot of the software manufacturers are going to soon be taking a similar stance that the RIAA took/is taken with music downloads. With the economy being what it is, and software sales diminishing, companies are going to start taking a closer look at something they have chose to virtually ignore in the past.

The only difference is the RIAA fines are a drop in the ocean compared to the fines that Adobe or Microsoft will hit you with. ($150K per app at the civil level. Figure in the government nailing you for up $250K in addition to potential jail time.)

I'm not trying to be the software police, though I do believe in paying for what you use. And if those numbers aren't enough to give you second thoughts, well...

The $250k plus prison also applies to the Civil if the entity is proven to be willingly pirating and if it is proven to be Criminal. Not only that having worked for a company that has been through this process (I wasn't working there wen this happened, but my coworkers was there) I was made aware that the fines are retroactive to the install date, so those fines are $150K - $250k per license violation times the number of years using the software.

My previous company I know for a fact would be dinged around $40 million just for the adobe software alone.

But since I have gone the Open source router no more software pirating needed for me, and yet my software is still free.

So my current mac laptop is three and a half years old and I have about less than a gig of memory left.

What do you guys suggest?

An external? maybe?

yeah an external would be the easier route. you could install a bigger hard drive, but that really depends on how comfortable you feel opening the case/ how much you're willing to pay someone to do it for you

Also if you are not sure were all the data on your drive is this program jdiskreport JGoodies :: Downloads :: Demos will scan your hard drive and tell you where all the data is and help guide you with cleaning up the hard drive a bit. assuming that there is a lot of data on your drive that is not necessary. Otherwise it will be easier to go with an external drive.

Opening the laptops depending on the model can be a pain in the butt. iBooks are a pain in the butt. Mac Book pros are fairly simple to open up.

The laws are different up here in Canada. Besides, they aren't going to start with a little guy like me; they'll be going after the big time distributors. Maybe I'll worry more after I've received my first warning or actually known someone in my country who's been busted. Everything that I've read suggests that the law is having a hard time catching up with the information super highway.
