Im currently in the last days of owning my HTC Thunderbolt. Ive been a loyal HTC fan since I bought my first Incredible in April 2010. 2 HTC's later and its time for a upgrade. I LOVE my TB. Especially after the Gingerbread update in Sept 2011. Its been just about the perfect phone BUT I'm starting to get the new phone bug. My wife suggested I keep the TB for another year and buy a Tablet instead. To be honest, we have 3 tablets in a household of 3 and tablet #3 gets ZERO love from me. I dont really see the purpose of having one. I'd prefer a new phone.
I am with Verizon and have narrowed down my new phone choices to two, The Droid DNA by HTC ($199 w/2 yr plan extension) and the Droid Razr Maxx HD by Motorola ($299 w/2 yr plan extension). $$$ isnt going to drive my decision so im open to either.
Both have non-removable batteries which sucks because I ALWAYS buy larger batteries. I have a 3700mAh batt in my TB that keeps that thing rocking for 2.5 days in stand by and 1.25 days under a heavy display load. The Maxx HD has a much larger Batt/mAh @ 3300 w/1920 min usage whereas the DNA is 2020mAh w/768 min usage. I do quite a bit of driving so the phone would sit in a cradle and charge most of the time.
Only the Maxx HD has a SD card slot (32gig max with a 32gig internal) which I use to store tunage from Amazon MP3. If I go with the HTC (no SD support and 16gig internal), I'll have to store some stuff on the Amazon cloud. Which isnt a huge deal.
Many reviews of the HTC say it has the BEST display on the market right now which is a plus because I do use Netflix, Amazon Instant Vid, Navigator pretty often...daily in fact.
Both phones are highly regarded and are well seated in the 4.5-5 star rating everywhere. So I possibly couldnt go wrong with either. So I need a boot-on-ground type review from a owner or someone that has dealt with either.
Anyone have any input on either device? End User problems? Support, Hardware/Software issues? Pros and Cons?
At this point, I'm on the fence BUT leaning towards the HTC because I have had a good run with them and know the setup. One thing that makes me leery with the Motorola is my wife's work phone is a Motorola Droid 3 AND IT SUCKS BALLS! its heavy, clunky and poorly constructed. I know its a 1.75 year old phone but it was a piece of crap out of the box and has gotten worse over the year she's owned it. But like I said, I could realistically swing either way if
I'm not a Phone whore that needs to change phones every 3 months so I'm looking for something that will give me at minimum, 2 years of service with proper (Seidio) protection.
Also, What should I do with my old smartphones and PDA's? I have 4 old, but new condition Nokia's, Palm Treo, Pre, T|X, Pilot III, Incredible (1st gen), Incredible 2 and soon-to-be Thunderbolt as well as my wife's 4 old SPs. All are in working order so someone could possibly use them somewhere. I dont want to sell them. I'd rather just donated them so the poor, Poor, oh so tragically POOR people can afford to make payments on their $5k rims this month.
Thanks guys. Looking forward to personal reviews and opinions so don't pull any punches...except the inevitable "Get a iphone" short bus post. Aint happen'n so save your keyboard.![]()
