Thread: Optical Cables

I got an Acoustic Research optical cable at Fry's for my HDTV/HTSystem hookup but even though it fits the jacks it doesn't stay in.

Do I have to really jam that plug in the jack to get it stay?

Did I get the wrong size? Anybody used this type of cable before because I haven't. It has a little light bulb at each end.

I tried turning it, no go.

I looked for a pull back/spring loaded thingy (like a quick disconnect), not there.

Tried connecting it to the Time Warner cable box, same thing.

All jacks, (HDTV, HTSystem and Time Warner cable box) have the same type of jack: a square port with a little cover that flips open when you push the cable in.

I think they are all the same size. when you push it in, do you feel a "click" feel? I haven't touched my optical cables in a while, but I recall that is what I felt when pushing them in. I didn't feel like I was "jamming" them in, either. but then again, it is fry's. I wouldn't be surprised if they sold you a POS cable...or a POS anything for that matter ;-).

No, definitely no click.

I know Fry's rep is as you say but their prices are good.

Hmmmmm....I may be going back tomorrow....

ebay cables are much cheaper lol.

Heh! They sure are but for $19.99 at Fry's, as opposed to $27.00 at Best Buy, and, I wanted the darn cable today, and Fry's is close to work, I did the Fry's dance....

fry's is about 1 mile away from my office. I'll never step into that ****hole again. lol.

This cable will just not stay in! No click...nothing.

Well, back to the ****house tomorrow!

There is only one way it can go in. Match up the flat side, & there should be a click when it's fully seated.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, I couldn't find my old one. Go to monoprice & get your cables. A 6 foot one is less than $5. It takes about 2 days for it to arrive.

Yes, I matched up the flat side on the HDTV and the cable box but, nada.
