Just enough for a Blu-ray player.
And just to tempt you some more...
Warner to Offer Discounted Blu-rays Beginning This Fall
My DVD library is around 1200 or so, and my BD library is around 95-100. (I have to double check the count.) Though the backwards compatibility can come into play on some formats, I have yet to come across a DVD that hasn't played in my PS3. Of course, because I have a Region Free PAL-to-NTSC DVD player, I use that more for SD than the Sony.![]()

^ Cool.
So does anyone wanna buy some...stuff?
A lot of Sony Costco players come with extra stuff for the reason already mentioned - specific model numbers so no one can price match them. Their Blu-ray Player (S300, I believe) in Costco is the 301 - and the only difference is the $5 cable ($75 at Best Buy) in the box.
I still say that one of the biggest mistakes that electronic manfacturers are making in this new technology is not putting the right cables in the box. I know retailers want the opportunity to upsell, but the can still do that as there are enough idiots out there to make a living. I just don't see how someone can sell a Blu-ray player without an HD cable, and expect a newbie to come to their own conclusion that the composite video connection isn't right - despite what must be a horrible looking picture.
To be honest, if money is that much of an issue, I would definately wait on the upscaling player and put that towards a Blu-ray players somewhere down the line. As already stated, the BD player will upconvert your old DVDs anyway, as well we play whatever discs you decided to buy on BD - even if you decide to only buy new content on the format.
Just remember - depending on the quality of the scaler in your television, assuming you have at least a progressive DVD player, the television will be doing the exact same thing internally as the player would be doing externally.
^ Thanks for the info. I will check out the Sony upconverting dvd player I got from costco for about 3 months at which time I will hopefully have enough $$ for a blue-ray player.
how much is the sony player at costco? i only ask because if you hunt around for the right deal, you can get a good blu ray player for 299. i think the insignia at best buy (which has gotten pretty good reviews) is only 329, but i'm sure they'll have it at 299 soon. if you already spent the money on your lcd, don't sell yourself short on content. now, i understand that the money can be an issue, but if thats the case, i suggest waiting and saving up for a blu ray player. anyways, thats just my 2 cents.

"I love this f***ing team right here."
Ugh. I wish you hadn't said that. It pisses me off that people use Costco's liberal policies like that. Like it or not, but it does affect other customers in the price of membership - once a player is returned, Costco eats the loss.
I'd also be very careful - I have a friend who was a borderline criminal when it came to Costco returns. She would be returning stuff every other week, including clothes that she would buy for specific reasons (a coat for a ski trip, etc.) She's buy movies "just to see them", and would have no problem attempting to return something five years after purchasing. Costco pretty much banned her from returning stuff now. So they do monitor this kind of activity.
