    Default Skype vs. magic jack

I haven't had a land line for years however daughter is getting older and wants to talk to her friends on the phone. My wife and I are tired of her using our cells and im looking to get something for her. Has anybody used these in the past? I need something that is low-tech ie idiot-proof so if Im away on business she can still use it. I read the reviews and it seems like its 50-50 love-hate. Thanks in advance.

Get her a cell phone? They are usually $5-$10/month to add on to your plan.

Magic jack can have some call quality issues, but seems to work fine.

Skype/Google Voice/Vonage is probably more expensive than adding a phone to your plan.
And thats how you get ants!

Skype is great IMO. Skype to Skype is free and you can call landlines for less then $3 bucks a month or there bouts. I actually do my radio show using Skype and its generally pretty dependable for sound quality and what not. My 3 month unlimited skype to landline is $8.50 for 3 months.

Had magic jack as well...wasnt nearly as dependable and was impossible to remove the install.

I paid $5k a few years ago for the Avaya "Partner" business phone system... worked good but the system fried last year. I figured I give Skype a try... I dropped 3 of our lines and forwarded the main line through to Skype; I am impressed! Each of us at our office have their own Skype line so it's awesome. I can work and transfer calls from home or anywhere, I love it!

Thats cool Ek84. I wish I had Skype when I was overseas a few years back. Hope your dad has a safe deployment.
