Default Suggestions on 1 TB external hard drives?

    Friends,

I've been looking for a 1TB external hard drive for some time now, but whenever I get to the details I don't know which way to go.

I've been to Costco and they've got a few Western Digital drives 1TB, 1.5TB, 2TB, all compatible to 2.0 and 3.0 USB. I have a MacBook so I'm figuring I'm looking for a 2.0? Or can I get either one?

Otherwise, I've been looking on NewEgg.com and they've got plenty of seemingly nice drives for around $100. I generally don't want to go far over that amount.

Still, what exactly should I be looking for? This is what I want - a drive that will hold music only, and I'm only going to use it occasionally. But I see all sorts of "reviews" from customers and every drive has an up and down side.

People of LGK generally have more of my trust over the Web so I thought I'd ask in this forum.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    ~ Sumi

For a few bucks more, I prefer a NAS hard drive. You can have multiple computers using it at the same time and it can be made accessible remotely if needed.

$80 at Amazon. I've had two for years and never even think about them.

At the end of the day, all of these things are going to have their share of negative reviews, because anyone who has ever had their external hard drive crash knows how brutal of an experience it is... And anyone can get a lemon.

Back up the super important stuff in more than one place.
