Gotta love monopolies. It's not like I can switch to another high speed internet company unless I want to go to cable. Why does this feel like it should be illegal?

If you are talking about streaming video then this will give you an idea. Streaming a HD Netfilx movie is about 2GB an hour.

Yeah, some people are going to get raped with this.

I wonder if companies like Apple and Netflix will try to fight this type of thing? It cuts directly into their business.

I'm more curious as to how the movie studios feel about this. A couple of years ago I think they'd be throwing big parties, but now that they've somewhat adapted to the online model through contracts with various providers, they can't be overwhelmingly blown away. Still - I bet torrents are still the biggest bandwidth eater, and that directly attacks their bottom line.

That's all well and good, but ISP's can nip this in the bud. We just got an email from our provider that someone on one of our networks was using bittorent to download Black Swan and that if it weren't corrected, they'd terminate the service. If bandwidth is being used heavily by users, track where the data is coming from, and gauge it that way. Me using netflix to watch a movie shouldn't have to suffer because of some douche screaming about DRM and the evils of it.

I watch all my baseball and basketball games on the internet. I also use the net to watch shows that I missed during the week (I don't have cable OR a dvr). And, of course, I use netflix and itunes to watch/rent movies. I don't know how much data I use, but if I get near that cap, I will probably move to cable. I have been a faithful DSL user since the pacific bell days, back when most people were still on dialup. I hate my cable company, but if AT&T isn't going to grandfather me in, then I can make business decisions too and move on. At one point, I had AT&T home, internet, and cell service, and would get u-verse if they offered it where I live. As it stands right now, I may not have any AT&T services if they keep pissing me off.
