I wouldn't take a ipad if someone gave it too me...I'm a android type of Guy, that being said, I'm waiting for the HTC Flyer to come out later this month or early next month. Mainly because I have a Evo and have been extremely happy with it, plus I'm with Sprint. Its also supposed to be the first tablet to run android 2.4 (gingerbread) . The only other tablet I would consider is the Zoom by Motorola. My friends have it, and its impressive.

My boss got me an iPad for Christmas and I haven't looked back since. I jailbroke it and now I have a myriad of possibilities with it. I've even loaded an NES/SNES emulator on it, paired my Wii remote to it, and play old school games on it.
As far as lack of flash goes, there's a browser called "Skyfire" that will load pretty much any flash video on the net.
The amount of apps you can get on the iPad will topple any other tablet in the market. There's not much you can't do without it. The ONLY drawback would be that they don't take external storage. If you buy the 32GB one, you're limited to that much space. If you load up a bunch of movies, you're pretty much going to max yourself out.
If your research stops at the iPad, I recommend you get the iPad2. It sports two cameras, a faster processor, and a much more sleek design.
Whatever you end up buying, hope it works out for the best.

Bottom line is that what you want it for will dictate what your best bet will be. All of the Apps available for the ipad far outweigh the inconvenience of no flash, but there are ways around that.
Do you have a smartphone? If you have smartphone I would stick with the same operating system you have on your smartphone. I love the fact that many of my paid apps work natively on my iPad and iPhone. Over the last 4 years I have bought so many iPhone apps that it would be hard for me to change to any other platform. The iPad compliments my iPhone and visa versa. That's my recommendation... Good luck!
My iPad(1) still rules. If you don't want an apple product, there are several options available to you but there's a reason why the new iPad2's are selling out and people still line up for them.
Apple is on a run, not sure how long it'll last but all their **** works and makes sense for me.
Just picked up an IPad 2 64GB 3G from Target this morning. Only had an hour or so to play with it before I had to go in to the office but the lighter weight and faster processor are a definite upgrade over the iPad 1. If you don't mind waiting until stock replenishes (they are very difficult to find right now) and want an iPad, I'd hold off until you can purchase an iPad 2.
FWIW... I would have purchased the 32GB but they only had the 64GB. You can pick and choose (down to a per-episode/song/movie level if you want) which movies, photos, songs, podcasts, etc., you want to sync to your iPad, so you can manage the available space on it pretty easily if space becomes a premium. Folks that have an iPod/iPhone or other MP3 player can skip syncing any music to the iPad at all if you want to save more space. There are a lot of options.

I love the way the ipad 1 and 2 works but itunes and no microsd slot is a major pain in the butt. I have multiple machines in my house and I hate the way itunes functions. Itunes always moves my files around and duplicates my music.
