I guess it comes down to what do you want to do with it..
In January, I purchased the Viewsonic gTablet, which is a wi-fi only (so no carrier!!) Android tablet. I did try out the custom Viewsonic interface into Android, and it was sluggish and I didn't like it. After about 30 minutes browsing XDA, I determined that I was ready to flash it and load what I wanted on it.
After about 15 minutes, I had replaced the Viewsonic ROM with the VEGAN-TAB BETA 5.1.1 ROM and LOVE IT. I have since flashed to VEGAN GINGERBREAD EXPERIMENTAL ROM, and it may very well be my day to day ROM.
I have some some minor issues with Google Market and the SI for Tablet apps since moving to Gingerbread, but it isn't a deal breaker for me.
If you look at reviews for the gtablet, pay little attention to the viewing angles, unless you want to see you tablet from a ways away, or want to have more than one person looking at it a time.
I use my gtablet primarily for Nook, web, e-mail, and Angry Birds, and have no problem with the viewing angles. The accessories are tough to find, but XDA does have someone bringing them in all the time.
I paid $379 for mine at Sears.
btw, it is a Tegra2 Tablet. Same as the Malata zpad.
