    Default Transfer iPod to Mac

Just got a new iPod Classic and for a variety of reasons I have my whole music library only backed up on my old iPod.

Anyone know of a good free program I can use to transfer files from the iPod to my Mac?

I tried "Pod to Mac" but the trial version has serious limitations...

There is a free way to transfer your purchases from your ipod to your new computer or ipod within itunes. It will transfer all of the music and video from your ipod that you purchased but will not transfer the stuff you have ripped.

Connect the old ipod to your mac and in the upper left menu under "file" click on transfer purchases from ipod. It will get most of your music over there. And it is free and safe.

    Senuti (itunes spelled backwards)

It is a good program and only mac compatible.

For PC I would also recommend sharepod.

I would recommend in the future NOT using your iPod as your only archive. There will be a time whether it's during a firmware upgrade or just a syncing session that goes bad that you may have to reset it. External hard drives are dirt cheap right now - they'll save you time and money in the long run.
