damn forgot the pictures after I brought the box into the living room. I was just too damn excited to get this thing in. :(
Since I am not done with the total setup yet, I may be able to snap some photos when I install the Yamaha carousel and try to do a better job at cable management.
I now fully understand why people spend $1,500 on a receiver. Granted, I didn't, but DAMN. This could be a BAD thing, since I will probably never ever buy a sub $1,500 receiver again. Of course, I am targeting the year 2018 or beyond when I get my next receiver.
I haven't had NEARLY enough time to figure the best settings for me, however for the ipod and XM, it looks like Straight Enhancement works the best. For my CD's, I like basic 2 channel stereo over Straight Enhancement and Pure Direct. Pure Direct doesn't send anything to the subwoofer, and Straight Enhancement seems too much for CD's. I am sending the CD signals over S/PDIF to the Yamaha.
I watched about 30 minutes of movies... I started with the PCM track of POTC:AWE (BD) and the scenes I watched played without a hitch. I then decided to try Transformers (HDDVD) with the Dolby Digital Plus track. I was just getting DD, but that was expected, since Samsung hasn't fixed the 5000 (yet?). I watched a scene or two, and it was much better than the Sony. I was using the CSP - Movie: Adventure.
The OSD is pretty cool, and the Yamaha background is slick. Controlling the ipod, XM, and NetRadio (I have the ethernet port attached to a Buffalo G125 which is wirelessly bridged to another G125) is simple. I just wish I didn't have to power on my JVC, but oh well. (hmm, maybe it will fail sooner!!!! :) )
I need to spend SO MUCH more time with this thing while my wife is away. She is going to be spending 2 weeks in France, so I should have some time. However, I will be in Dallas TWICE while she is away. :pfft:
I have to figure out exactly what it is I have.
Well, I think to impress the wife I need to put in the Dave Mathews concert BD.. :)
