    Default Verizon FIOS

They are putting up Verizon FIOS lines in front of my house as I type this. How is their service? Price?

It's supposed to be state of the art. the latest in fiber-optic technology, don't let the TWC commercials fool you guys. TWC does have fiber-optics but they suck...

You can look up info only on pricing. It's not too bad price-wise

    Unfortunately where I live, I'm in AT&T country...boo!!!

I have had the internet portion for 2 years and it has been rock solid. I don't have any complaints. I have had the TV portion for over a year and a half and overall it has been good. The interactive program is buggy but this is a new "upgrade" in the interface and I think it will get better with patches.

The HD channels come standard with the basic programming package so there is no extra cost for the HD channels. One thing that I see that will keep you from getting the TV portion is that Verizon does not have NHL Center Ice. In Demand, which provides all of the sports packages, is owned by several cable companies and it sounds like they are making it hard for Verizon to get a contract for the sports packages.

    Premier package - $42.99
    HDDVR - $12.99
    HD STB - $9.99
    SD STB - $4.99

    Internet
    5/2 - $39.99
    15/2 - $49.99
    30/5 - $179.00

however... Verizon is also offering 150 HD channels standard with FIOS.

Plus the internet speed is BLAZING fast.

Also... (this may need to be in another thread)... Verizon announced yesterday that they are closing their call centers in India and... um... wherever the other one is.

Too many complaints and bad surveys

    I got it about 3 months ago. Dumped charter & bought a 2-year plan w/ (5/2) Internet, phone & TV for 99/month.

    So far, no complaints,

I'll probably dump my Charter internet and move over as soon as they switch it on. Thanks for the info!

Just to clarify, Verizon announced they will add 150 HD channels by the end of next year. They currently don't have that many HD channels. It is expected to be 30 HD channels by spring and the rest by the end of next year.

Cable is rapidly approaching the stone age... WTH? They were quick to toot their horn about the fact they had HD first and fastest and now they're going to be dead last behind satellite and... phone companies? Eeeek.

Cable's in kind of a tough spot. They're almost capped out in terms of bandwidth, so their only choice is to switch analog channels to digital in order to add HD channels.

But whatever advantage satellites and FTTH has right now is only temporary. Eventually, cable companies will deploy Switched Digital and DOCSIS 3.0 and multi-room DVRs and "Start Over" technology and you'll eventually barely be able to tell the difference between FiOS, U-Verse and your traditional HFC network. Companies like Comcast, Time-Warner, Cox, Charter... too big, too much money to be lost to not figure out how to compete.

They've been installing this all over my neighborhood, they tore into my street about two weeks ago. I guess I'm gonna have to look into it.
