Much more customizable in its use and features. for example, more flexibility in the "season pass" features (like only recording first run programs). TiVo has online scheduling, movie/show recommendations based on your preferences, the list is quite long.
The features are numerous and constantly growing.
What makes the TIVO better?
Think about your first computer. It ran slow, you had to restart it all the time, it didn't have too many features...
Now think of the current computer. It runs faster, never has to be re-booted and has plenty of extras...
It's kinda like if you have to ask you wouldn't understand.
BTW - Most if not all DVR's run on LINUX
I never understood the TiVo hype before I had one. People described it "something that once you have it, you don't know why you went so long without it."
I read about and did some research it and couldn't find anything negative about it. But the more I read, the more I was intrigued by it. Finally, i broke down and bought TiVo. I bought the lifetime subscription(which they don't offer anymore,
unfortunately) and it paid for itself after two years.
Hmm, the online feature seems to be the best one probably. But I don't think it's worth the price to me compared to the small cost of the DVR.
I have both a TWC HD DVR and a Tivo 40-hour Series 2. There is no comparison, the tivo is far and away better. It just does everything better than the TWC DVR.
-Its a smarter system
-it actually understands what "first run" means
-it groups your shows together (so your 7 episodes of Entourage will all be grouped in one folder in your directory)
-Online scheduling
-30 second skip (man do I miss that when using the TWC DVR)
Basically Tivo is just an easier system to operate and less frustrating to use. I don't know about you, but when I get toward the end of shows on my TWC box, it tends to sip to the end when I'm fast forwarding (like when I hit the 50 minute mark on an hour show it skips the final 10 minutes).
Ha, yea the "first run" part of the TWC DVR is pretty retarded. Grouping the shows together would also be nice. Online scheduling would probably be my favorite part though.
What do you mean by the 30-second skip though? We have the button on the remote for the TWC DVR that rewinds 30-45 seconds, but I don't think there's one that FFs 30 seconds if that's what you're talking about.
