I believe it is a series 3 although I would call it a "series 3 lite".

    From the Tivo FAQ:
How is TiVo HD different from the TiVo Series3 HD Digital Media Recorder?

Both products are designed on the Series3 architecture so the core TiVo functionality is the same. However, the TiVo Series3 HD Digital Media Recorder will remain as our premium HD DVR product with features such as a bigger hard drive (250gb), THX Certification, front panel display and a programmable, back-lit remote control.
So it looks like the series 3 lite doesn't have the above features.

I don't get something. Do you have to pay for this as well as a monthly fee or just the box and that's it?

There is an additional monthly fee on top of buying the box. The monthly price is a few dollars more a month then my cable's HD DVR box rental price but if you prepay then the price drops below the cable's monthly fee.

The prices are on the right of the screen.

So why buy a Tivo when you can get a DVR? How much better can it be? I pay $10/month for my HD DVR box from TWC which includes HD service and the DVR service.

My TWC DVR is like an Amiga, compared to my TIVO which is like a MAC.

Tivo is by far the best DVR out there. Its too bad that unit inst compatible with satellite. I have a series2 40 hr DVR that I absolutely love. My Direct TV HD DVR sucks in comparison (although it works and does the job, the menus, interface, and features can't compare!) TiVo is an outstanding product IMO.

What are the extra features of TIVO? I'm just curious.

Extra features as compared to what?
Tivo invented DVR's and they did a very good job with it.

I too can't stand my DirecTv HD DVR, but I had no other options, and it does the job, just wish I could upgrade the HD to a 500gig.
