**** if I know what I did, but it's back up and running again.

Time to plug everything else back into it and back-up the **** out of things before it ****s me over again.

Woof...AVG just hammered a trojan called KRYPTIK.QUY in its search. Maybe that was what was ****ing with things?

Could be. But that wouldn't have been the problem when running it in a separate enclosure. But maybe caused the BSOD.

I've found that some of the nasty tdss trojans out there can really f up a disk. I would back up my important stuff before rebooting. I had a previous experience where I used Kaspersky's TDSS Killer removal tool to remove a couple tdss trojans and the disk structure was so damaged afterward I had to reformat.

Funny thing is that now it'll boot okay when just the original two 500gb Hitachi HDDs are installed (mirrored in a RAID 0), but when I plug in the other pair of 2tb HDDs that were running in it before, it BSODs on boot. Both of the extras run fine in enclosures through a USB port though.

I'm backing up all my important stuff now. It'll take all damned day I have a feeling, but I can't live without any of it (pics, music, movies, taxes, etc).

Now I just have to figure out what to do next. When I initially tried to format a spare drive and reinstall the OS, it BSOD'd. I'm beginning to thing this is more of a mobo issue. I don't have the spare scratch for a new desktop computer right now, but I need it for some photo work that's coming up. ****.

It could just be the RAID or disk controller causing problems. You can try using different SATA ports on the motherboard. Don't use it as a RAID, use it as JBOD (Just a Bunch Of Disks).
And thats how you get ants!

when you back-up, how do you do it and to what? I have an extra HDD as a slave drive that I use for a back-up. the master drive (separate) has just the basic things to run the system.
I BELIEVE I'll have another beer!

CD - Yeah. Already tried that. No luck.

Tried a clean HDD and a fresh install of XP Pro. It BSOD's repeatedly just as it is "STARTING WINDOWS." That's after it loads initial drivers and just before it goes to the GUI portion of the install.

Gotta be a mobo issue, no?

Whatever. Solution to the problem will be a new processor/mobo and components with a Windows 7 Pro 64bit OS. I think I'll reuse the case though. Can't do it for a couple weeks yet, though.
