    Default Your Broadband Internet Provider

We have Verizon, out of contract so I'm free to go. At any rate, my modem fried and they're not offering to replace it.

So, since I have the option of switching to another provider, I thought I'd get your opinions on the best broadband (high-speed) internet provider.

    Any help would be appreciated.

edit: Mac-friendly providers would be appreciated :D

FWIW, I have Comcast and it's ok service but super expensive. I've heard from friends that AT&T/Yahoo DSL is horrible. Plus the TOS makes Microsoft look almost reasonable by comparison.

We actually offer it as a service, but the cost of the line that we have to sell you is higher than what you can get it from Verizon from directly, so:

    1) its going to be more expensive

    2) Your still going to have to buy a new modem

Verizon wouldn't send you a new Modem if you re-upped your contract with them?

As for the modem, PM me the model that your using, and I can see what price I can get one for you.
at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

AT&T DSL is the suck, IMO. I don't have much choice because of where I live, so I'm stuck with it.

I heard that Verizon FIOS is tha bomb, however.

Most likely I'll need a new modem regardless. But I'd prefer to get one through a different company.

Probably. I haven't called up and cancelled yet but I know they'll most likely offer that.[/QUOTE]

I'm pretty sick of their customer service or lack thereof that I'm willing to just cut ties there.

I have had Verizon FIOS coming up on 2 years and it has never been down. It is great. I also have Fios TV and overall, I think it is better then Directv and Dish Network that I have had in the past.

but he doesn't have Center Ice, which is why I haven't switched to Verizon FIOS TV.

As far as my broadband, I use multiple US Robotics Internal 14.4 kbps modems dialed into a shell account. For a backup, I have a 300 baud acoustic coupler. It is the ****!!!!

O.K., I have had Time Warner Cable's service for 5 or 6 years, and have RARELY had a problem

DSL Extreme, got it on a recommendationfrom a fellow LGKer years ago. It's cheap and not one problem ever.

I'd get FIOS too if it had CI, ($99 for phone, tv an internet).
