2009 Snoopy Tournament
It gets underway on Saturday with two "pre-tournament" games before the first full day of competition gets going on Sunday.
I'm covering this tournament for another site, but the team(s) that I'm covering (University of Denver and the University of Michigan) will be wrapping up tournament play by Wednesday night. So if any of you want anything (other than the teams that I'm already covering) on this tournament or want to know about who is playing with what team (SoCal is very well represented at this tourney every year). Let me know and I'll see what I can do for you. I'll be at the tournament for five of the eight days.
BTW, if you want more info on this year's tourney and the teams that will be there, please visit the Snoopy Tournament page: http://www.snoopyshomeice.com/senior-hockey.shtml

We've been going since the 70's but haven't been since Sparky died. My grandmother used to organize another Senior Tournament before he took over.
We still have a lot of friends who play. Sadly, my grandfather played until he was about 72 and then he had to 'retire'.
This is a fun tournament and if anyone is in the area and want to see some old guys play real hockey, stop by. There is a supposed no contact rule but most of these crusty old dudes don't obey. Its pretty funny.

Oh, it really.
Today was my "off day'", but I was there the last two days and will be there again tomorrow and it's been a real blast so far!
FYI LGKers..... former King Jamie Kompon is playing in this year's tournament with the SoCal Golden Bears. These guys always bring a good team to the tourney. And their annual grudge match against the United Nations team in the 40A Division happens on Friday and I'm gonna be there. I know a couple of the guys on the UN team and am really looking forward to it. It should be a terrific game.
BTW, the United Nations 50A team has former Montreal Canadien Terry Harper playing for them this year, while Danny Geoffrion (yes, Boom Boom's son and the father of U of Wisconsin forward Blake Geoffrion) is playing with the Nashville team that's also here too.

No more Senior Kings? I guess when Ronnie Van Gompel died so did that team. I would have though Vic Venaski or one of the other guys would have picked up the team. Sad. I only know about two players that still go. The glory days are over since Sparky died.
Is Monty Shultz still running the UN team?
