That's exactly what the Doc told my Dad.

I fractured my right ankle in a game a week and a half ago. Random play trying to get the puck up the boards and out of the zone. A little bit of contact with an opposing player, and somehow my foot stopped while my leg kept going. I thought it was a high ankle sprain at first but x-rays the next morning showed a pretty good fracture.

It's frustrating as hell being in the boot and on crutches, but it isn't nearly as bad as when I had my tibial plateau fracture and had to keep my entire leg straight. I'm definitely ready for the swelling to be gone, but it's lingering...

Yeah, I just started skating again last weekend and played in a couple pickups this week just to shake off some rust. There's still a slight bit of discomfort but I liken it to having not walked on or used my ankle for almost a month. My first game back is monday, I'm pretty excited to get back out there...we'll see how it goes. The good thing is though, that the whole time I couldn't skate I was doing stickhandling and shooting drills non-stop and have improved noticably in the time off.

How long do you have to wear the boot for?

I'll be in and out of it until the first week of January, then we'll see what the follow up x-rays show. For now, I'm really only in the boot when I'm going places. At home I'm out of it pretty much all the time, just making sure to keep it elevated and ice it on and off. At the office I'm in the boot a lot more often, but I still take it off for several hours at least.

I would MUCH rather have a break then a sprain.

The sprain in my left wrist turned into tendonitis that im gonna have to learn to live with for the rest of my life.

Did I mention im only 19?

Yeah, I would've been better off breaking it.
