Maybe try Pickwick in Burbank? It's not as nice, but it's somewhat centrally located with Pasadena/Valley people. I believe it's also cheaper than Pasadena per hour...but I'm not sure what the schedule is.
The pick up games are for every level and I've played in them a few times. It's fun and for the most part, the people who show up are nice. The level of play varies per week...one time I went and it was at the level of one of our games. Another time I went, I showed up and former minor hockey players were there and I got lit up. So...depends on the day. Other sessions are packed early, others are sparse.

Ontario gave our earlier Tuesday night slot the boot because of youth practices through the Spring as well and offered a 10pm start time. Needless to say, we old farts with early wake up calls have forced it not to happen at all until SCAHA is over and done with for their season. I guess it's an epidemic in many cases.

Public pickup is always hit and miss. While the turnout is generally good, the players are what's questionable. From my experiences with Pasadena public ice pickup, the people that show up are generally cool, but then there's those times where the ringers show up with their buddies, and they pass to each other and not to the people they don't know. It can get lame like that but for the most part its fine.
I love private pickup with LGK and the Rose Bowl groups. You're guaranteed a fun game without the attitudes.
PTDP, keep working on local Rinks and I'll help any way I can. We know enough people to make it a regular thing if we get serious enough about it.

Just want to add myself to the list here. I've decided to stop out of league play (I was playing Culver City Wednesday/Bronze) due to my travel schedule, but am looking for evening pickup games, especially those on the west side. Hope to join an LGK game sometime!

So Pasadena ice rink just wrote you off? They didn't give you any other times that may work for us? No late nights? For "everything" to be booked until March sounds fishy.

No, just the early time slots. Feel free to book a late night spot.

Edit: I think their in house league, youth hockey, figure skating ect is starting up.
That may explain why the early time slots are filled.
Who knows, it maybe the college kids and broom ball who are sweeping up the early time slots.
(which btw, I feel is an insurance issue waiting to happen)

I will call Burbank again this evening, but it doesn't look like there will be anything happening this month with next weekend being a Holiday weekend.
I can enquire about next month, but I think HG has plans for Sept.
