Broke my foot in my game tonight. :(
Took a clapper off the outside of my right foot, right in the middle of the boot, just above the holder. Happened on my second shift of the game and I went down immediately. They stopped the game and helped me off the ice, to our bench. I tried to skate on it during my next shift but that lasted 10 seconds. I hung out on the bench until the end of the first, then went off the ice, got changed, and the wife drove me to the ER. X-Ray came back with a fracture, not too crazy she said, but still recommended I see an Orthopedic specialist. Totally bummed! I usually square up to the defenseman if I'm going to block a shot, but this time around I was heading back up to the point and turning as he let it rip, I even lited my leg to avoid being hit.

Hijole... get better soon. Sounds painful.
That's what you get for playing with dudes who can shoot.

Damn that sucks. Get well soon and don't try to come back too quick.

SupCalo's right. Been there...done that. It's already frustrating enough to be hurt....it'll only compound the frustration level 10 fold if you do something too soon only to keep you off the ice that much longer out of just being too anxious to return. I'm still paying the price a bit 2 years after the fact myself.

That's a bummer man... Would skate guards have helped or no?

At the very least probably would have made it a bruise instead of a fracture

Thanks everyone. The fracture happened in my 5th Metatarsal. I just got a cast put on, the Dr. recommended a cast over a boot as it would heal faster this way. I go back in three weeks for another X-ray and if all goes well, hopefully a boot for the following 3-4 weeks. Like others have mentioned I'm going to follow their orders to ensure the best possibility of healing in a timely manner.
My friend on my team also suffered the same exact injury last year and bought those skate/boot guards. Like Dan mentioned, they greatly reduce the risk of extensive injury.

Ouch, I've had a few bad hits and was sure I broke my foot but just internal bruising, can't imagine how bad it must hurt. Hope you feel better real soon. Elevation and ice behind the top of your cast will help ease the pain...
