Defense Struggles Early but Recovers In 3rd Straight Victory

-North Hollywood, Ca

Romik “The Postman” Rostomyan had not been asked to make a big save all season, Thursday night he proved that when called upon he could. The Flying Donato’s stayed true to their name and came out skating hard and fast and where rewarded with several outnumbered attacks in the early moments - including a clear cut 2-0 and a breakaway from center ice which was turned aside by an acrobatic save by The Postman.

Following a save by the LGK net minder, Forward James Just Jewitt picked up the rebound and skated the whole length of the rink and slid a wrist shot past the Donato’s goal keeper. The lead would not last long, a Defensive zone draw to the right of the goalie was won by LGK captain Kosher “Christmas” Hamm right through the crease just past the outstretch stick of two LGK players and was tipped into the open net by the Donato’s Forward.

LGK would regain the lead early in the 2nd , when forward Eddie (or is it Eric?) the Vortex found a back cutting Adam “The Fireman” Hammer skating down the left side for his second goal of the season. The momentum carried over to the next shift when Forward Zgold9915 picked up his own rebound in front of the net and stuffed it home, much to the chagrin of the Donato’s Goalie who felt that a whistle should have been blown.

A breakdown in the defensive zone brought life back to the Donato’s when a turnover in the defensive zone left a forward all by his lonesome in front of the LGK Backstop and after 3 chances he put the puck into the net for a short handed goal as the period expired.

As been the case all season the LGK defense put their hardhats on and went to work in the third period. The game plan turned to not giving the Donato’s any sort of outnumbered attacks while the offence waited for the right opportunity to put the game away. “When you have guys like HockeyAaron who take the body you just start to ware teams down, hard work all game leads to good things at the end” Hamm said after the game. LGK wouldn’t have to wait long to be rewarded for their efforts and following and Donato’s turnover, Defenseman Sarkis skated hard up the right side of the offensive zone and did his best Patrick Kane impersonation and slipped a backhanded shot over the outreached blocker of the frustrated goalkeeper.

The Pesky Donato’s continued to press hard and brought the score back to within 1 but Zgold went back to the red-light district for a second helping, putting a perfect pass by a steadily improving Fabio, through the legs of the Donato’s Goalie to finish the game 5-3.

Notes from the Rink:

LGK Captain Kosher “Christmas” Hamm looking to score his first goal in over a year since being sidelined with a right leg injury shot the puck 4 feet over a wide opened, goalie vacated net in the weaning seconds. “Not my style”, said Hamm after the game “I didn’t want my first goal to be an empty netter, I want to earn it”. - Get your boots on, because I smell some bull ****.
