Ducks to buy Glacial Gardens in Lakewood.
I heard about this a few weeks ago but spoke to the Manager last night to confirm. He told me the sale is in escrowe and they will presumably make improvements.
I wonder if this will affect the JR Kings who use it as one of their practice

I heard the same thing last week before our game. We were joking that the first order of business would be tearing down the large Kings graphics they just put up after winning the cup! lol.
I can only hope they improve the facility as it has seen better days. I just hope that they don't brand is as heavily as "The Rinks" off if the 22fwy.

Oh, they are going to brand the crap out of Glacial. I hope they make the necessary improvements. I play here occasionally and while I like it, it needs work.

Aww great. Who do they think they are? The Los Angeles Ducks of Anaheim? No amount of improvements is worth being run by those clowns. They bought the old Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey league a while back, and I refuse to play there anymore because the officiating was absolutely atrocious.

I have no basis to compare since I don't play @ any of the Duck rinks. However I this kind of thinking is silly IMO. At least the Ducks invest in their region. The Kings outreach is laughable. They've let LA area rinks die they even killed a few roller programs when they built TSC and now they don't even have roller. We begged them to help save the Hermosa Beach roller rink and all they would offer was clinics. The Kings also don't offer a minority / underprivileged or a Lady Kings program.

It's official. The Rinks at Lakewood Ice. Played first game of the season last night. The only change so far is the league is now run by the rink (Ducks), rink employees wear Duck Rinks jackets and the faux vestibule has been removed. The Igloo Bar upstairs is still open as is the shop. I didn't get to ask too many questions but they do plan improvements no details yet.

Thanks JW, my first game of the new season is at 5:45pm today. As weird as it sounds, I'm actually looking forward to the improvements that will occur as a result of the purchase. Glacial has been becoming more and more of an eye-sore each year, so I'm glad that things are about to turn around there.

I agree beedee.
First thing that needs to be done is replace the rubber mats on the benches and the locker rooms, then implode the showers and start over with comfortable water temps and no mold or other whatever you want to call the nastyness...
Then work on the ice.

Okay, here is some insight from a parent perspective and this is based on my views only. My son skates in the Sunday clinic with Sandy (Gasseau) as the coach. This used to be 10 weeks for $200 of one full hour on the ice and it was pretty cool. Small group of people (5-8 kids) and the dad's were allowed to come out and "coach" and help out just to keep bodies out there and watch the kids. When the Ducks took over there have been some changes. First of all they were giving out Ducks jerseys at sign ups (my son saw the jersey, said uh oh Daddy! It's a Ducks jersey can you get me a Kings jersey and he started to cry when I told him that they did not have any much to the dislike of the guy signing people up in a Ducks shirt, with a Ducks pen...ha ha ha) and that is fine. The program was extended by 2 weeks (great!! a better value)
However, the coach was not out there at the start, and did not skate out until 25 minutes into the class. Now he skates out with his skates untied in full Ducks gear (no prob with that since it is the Ducks rink and that is their uniform) looking like a Sean Avery wannabe!! Come on dude, these are 5-8 kids here learning to play. Sandy is 1000 times more professional about this, so is Courtney. At the end when they do their cheer, he asked the kids what they yell and all the kids yelled "Kids love hockey!" The coaches response- "No that is not cool. Just say hockey" The kids had an uproar and drowned this guy out so he begrudgingly agreed, but you could tell he was ticked cause it was not what he wanted...DUDE Senor Douce Bag- it is not about you ya window licker. It is about these 5-8 year old kids on the ice. (Especially my son, nephew and the other 5 kids who refused to wear the Ducks jerseys!!)
