Wow. Is that where the old rink used to be in Corona? I don't recognize those street names, but it's been a long time. That's too bad, i have a hard time believing that they are so convinced that this is a step forward. I see them losing a lot of people in Anahiem because that drive on the 91 (worst freeway in SoCal) would suck so badly on weekday evenings that they won't play.
I don't think they really believe it's a step forward, but it sounds like this was their only viable option. Guess it's better than closing up completely like so many other rinks have done, but we'll see. My kids both play at the current facility, but it's going to add at least 10 miles to our drive each way (we're in Rowland Heights). Unfortunately, there aren't many options for next season that are closer to us - Grand Ave Park is outdoors and on concrete, and West Covina starts this coming weekend - so we'll probably stick with AHC at least for the fall. According to mapquest, we're better off taking the 60 to the 71 south, so hopefully the 91 won't be too much of a factor.
for you its 60 E to 71 S to 91 W but youre only on the 91 for a half mile or so to the Green River Exit.
From what I hear from very reliable sources, is that the owner sold the building right out from under AHC so there goes their lease and the new owners are putting in a go-kart facility. Anyone who still plays at AHC right now can see the Public Notice for the CUP (Conditional Use Permit) to change the use of the building. Apparently, the former owner is pretty cool and was helping KM find someplace to move the rink as opposed to just closing down... hence the move to the old Corona Rink. The building has been vacant since the old rink closed and it clearly can handle a full service rink.
I know a bunch of those spoiled brats from the OC wont want to drive the 10 miles on the 91 to play and that will lose quite a bit of the business, however, if they are really wanting to support the hockey community in SoCal, they wont let this rink fall by the wayside like so many others before it. Speaking of which, once the word gets out further about the move, its very likely that quite a bit of the hockey community that could not make it to Anaheim when the 909 rinks started falling out will come back to the sport. Chino, Corona, and Upland all had rinks that closed and people couldnt make it to Anaheim/Brea to keep playing. Hopefully, many of those people will come back to house league play in Corona to make this rink successful and not let roller hockey continue on it downward slope as another rink closes its doors.
The building has been up for sale for quite some time... Our last games will be the playoffs this week... Had some good times there over the last 7 years! Will give corona a try, they have a plan in place there that will be fased in.. Here's the quote from the web...

continue to offer quality inline hockey programs beginning in October 2007 at 4325
Prado Road #101, Corona, CA 92880.
Although initial plans were to relocate within the city of Anaheim, the real estate
market did not make business sense. However, we are extremely excited to be moving to
our new location directly off the freeway at Green River and the 91. Moreover, our
experienced and qualified staff and all of our established programs and leagues will
remain the same in our new home. A series of renovations are already in the works that
will come in phases over the first few seasons in Corona. We are enthusiastic that the
move is a huge step forward for the hockey club to continue to grow and improve roller
hockey opportunities for our current and new customers.
We will be moving our weekly game start times (the first game of the day will be
6:10pm) and allowing for carpool requests in the rec program as well as examining other
options to help alleviate the commute to our customers West of our new home. All of the
details will be announced very shortly.
Registration for our fall season is ongoing at the Anaheim location at the front
desk until September 23rd! We will soon be set-up to take registrations in Corona as well.
The fall season will begin the week of Oct. 6th.
The RBK Bulldog program will also continue its storied tradition and provide
some of the most experienced and qualified coaching staff in the country. Tryouts are
beginning in Anaheim on Sept. 16th and 22nd and will finish up at our Corona location.
Thank you to the Hearn family for their early contributions to the young sport of
roller hockey. We are excited to continue to build upon their efforts and bring the sport
in Southern California to new heights in years to come.

indoor roller hockey rinks close up I remember Labeda in Lake Elsinore Corona inline the Silo in Chino spills Gretzky/california inline in Upland and San Bernardino inline all closed up within 2 years or so and thanks to that all us roller players out here in the IE have to settle for crappy outdoor rinks or drive out to A.H.C or West Covina
The Silo was in the pit of Chino on Benson and Chino Avenue.
There were no hills in that area. Trust.
I think I played there in a tourney the weekend it opened. Friggin hot in there (like 120 at least). I think one of the owners was this guy named Ron who owned a shop (Pro Skate) in Garden Grove. That guy was classic!!!Quote:

Latest and Greatest from AHC is that they wont be opening in Corona until January.
Apparently, instead of moving the rink and peacemealing the updating around games and the players they are gutting the old Corona rink entirely and opening it brand new in 2008. A little canadian birdy mentioned to me the plans of a mezzanine level for viewing where there will be a restaurant/snack bar, updated locker rooms with showers, and a pro shop (same one thats already there undoubtedly. I squeezed him for information and made him uncomfortable. I like doing that. Apparently, the plans are being drawn but havent been submitted yet. I told him good luck. The City of Corona is not a slam dunk with their CUPs in my experience and unless someone is greasing palms I cant see them moving any faster than the typical 3 week through initial review then like 45 days or so to planning commission. If they submit Monday, theyre not looking at prelim approvals until the week before Halloween. THEN sometime in Mid December for approval at Planning Commission. Then consider how hard its gonna be to get anyone to work around Chanuka/Christmas/Kwaanza and the New Year... telling people theyre looking at a January Reopen for everything they want to do is overly ambitious and damned near false advertising.
