well. to be fair, they were being optomistic and had a plan in place to do the construction around the leagues so as to NOT disrupt players. Since Im not in the AHC/CHC Braintrust, I can only go by what I was told vs. rumors vs. my own experiences with planning in different jurisdictions. They probably had a good plan, but then realized that peacemealing out the project would cost more in money and time than just keeping the rink closed until new year. Also, are you aware of the trend in hockey? When one rink closes the other rinks dont increase in business. They drop. Its like when people lose their 'home rink', they decide to ditch hockey and go to other more immediately available games. Another total conjecture could be that they know the trend and instead of offering refunds immediately, they figure people will wait for CHC to be finished and come play the season that is already paid. If you didnt pay for the next season, would YOU wait with as much anticipation as you will knowing you already put money into it?
Also, which would you rather as a player? Start playing in October and play in the middle of a construction zone with areas taped off, no locker rooms, and overall limited space? Or would you rather have a credit for the Winter season and go into a rink that is totally complete and full of ridiculous amenities that we as lowly house leaguers probably dont deserve?
Its easy for me to say since Im your average type goalie that plays for free and the move to Corona will cut my drive in half.
My whole point in sharing what I found out was to make sure that everyone kinda had a heads up since rumors about roller rinks CONSTANTLY run amock. I personally think the January timeline is overly ambitious for what they still need to do and for what their plan is. Hopefully I am totally wrong and January 15th they are open for business.
I understand what you are saying, and also as a non-paying goalie I can only complain so much. I only worry about my teammates becoming angry/disillusioned about either not playing for a season or not getting their money back. I'd hate to see my team disband or go there seperate ways, especially since I invested in goalie equipment and only used it for two seasons. But thats just me.
Anyway, Unruely, you seem to be in the know, so is there any truth to the fact that the Ducks bought into the club. My teammates friend got the painting contract for the new rink and thats the info he passed on to me.
Damn! I'm glad I decided to skip this season and see how the place works out. I will be there when they re-open. I have to save up some money to start playing ice again if they don't. All the other roller facilities are crap compared to what AHC has.
